5. They now have D. Orrin, NY Post, and Frank Rich NYT, both saying a
recount isn't necessary. "It's not going to change a thing." according to Rich.

Matthews asking if it has to do with Kerry wanting to run again.

YUCK.

51. Gates bought a reduced slap on the wrist after being found GUILTY of US
ANTITRUST laws - Illegal Use of Monopoly Power, through huge donations to the repugs. Microsoft was found GUILTY in April of 2000 and one of the first things Ashcroft did was to soft peddle the remedy phase of the suit. One of the things being called for by the 13 states that were co-plaintiffs was to split Microsoft into several companies. The US ended up settling for much less, obviously. Several states as well as the European Union refused to settle. The EU actions are still on the agenda and I think they will be far more serious about the penalty phase than the US was.

but (IMHO) the point we need to hammer home is that our elections must be conducted honestly. And even Rethugs will care if they realize that future elections could also be rigged for the DEMS.

On a personal note, even if we end up stuck with Smirk for four more years, it will be gratifying to see his election "victory" exposed as shady and questionable. So much for a mandate.

63. It's not just about counting provisionals!
Especially in Florida!. But also in Ohio it involves whether or not the votes cast on "regular" ballots were counted and tabulated properly. Is there something I'm missing here other than two idiots guessing if Kerry is going to get 80 or 90% of the "provisional" vote and then trying to get a few yuks out of it?

I predict there will come a time when Matthews takes this seriously. But who the hell cares.

67. My dad passed away Nov. 2 - before he could vote for JK
Election day had to be the most devestating day of my life. A double-whammy.

He was standing in line to vote in Akron, Ohio, when he collapsed from a heart attack (supposedly, although still waiting for autopsy report/death certificate). He was 75 yrs old - never been to a doctor in his life - a little stubborn about doctors, etc., but we thought he was in excellent health (slim, athletic) so never pushed it too much.

We don't know exactly how long he stood in line, although we heard it was only for about hour (my mom wasn't with him - she always preferred to vote later in the day - he always voted when polls opened)

Strangely enough, he was at my home for dinner Sunday evening (a traditional Italian family tradition) before Election Day. That night, I urged him and my mom to go to to vote at the local Election Bureau on Monday instead of standing in long lines in the cold forecasted rain on Tuesday. My dad proudly said he never missed an Election Day in his life, and that standing in line wouldn't bother him. I tried, obviously not enough! In the long run, I guess it was going to happen, one way or another....

My dad was a liberal democrat, a dedicated veteran, and absolutely hated Bush and his regime. Boy, I wish he could have had a chance to vote! On the other hand, I'm kinda glad he never learned of the devastating Ohio results.

Been lurking here for a long time. I saw Kerry at Akron University in March and fell in love with the guy, although he had my vote and I was impressed with him earlier on from watching him on c-span, etc. Another rally in late August in Akron and I was more than hooked on him. I miss him so bad. Every time I see the Chimp on tv I can't believe 1/2 of our country is so stupid.

Thanks for keeping me sane. For sanity, I read DU often.

68. He doesn't get it. I'm sending this article from Newsweek to Matthews.
Its by Steven Levy. Here's a taste:

<snip>
It would be easy to dismiss this bunch as a society of paranoids. Indeed, their complaints seem beyond the pale when key e-voting critics claim that despite some problems, there's no evidence that the outcome was affected. Anyway, at this point, even pictures of Karl Rove personally hacking Diebold machines wouldn't budge the incumbent from the White House. Is it time for these folks to shut up already?

To the contrary, their curmudgeonry serves an important purpose. The nature of the ATM-style voting terminals used by a third of the country in 2004—and set to increase over the next few cycles—doesn't merely invite controversy. It makes doubt a permanent part of the process. The problem is that the new devices have no way of proving to the voter that his or her choice is reported in the final tally. Researchers have demonstrated that the machines themselves are not foolproof—and, worse, are potentially susceptible to vote-stealing schemes. <unsnip>

It's a really good article. I hope Matthews will read it. Here's the link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6595385/site/newsweek
So, even with Matthews' dismissiveness, there is still more and more info coming out that confirms what we are saying.
