Please tell me I won't be alone in Columbus this Saturday!!!!
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 09:42 PM by meganmonkey
Okay folks - this is it. It is time for the shit to hit the fan. And if it doesn't, we have no right to complain in 2008 when another election is stolen.
Will an Ohio recount overturn the election results & put Kerry in office? Frankly I doubt it, but it sure would be nice. That is not the most important issue here. That is just a short-term, instant gratification kind of goal. We are talking about a much bigger picture.
We are talking about whether or not we will ever trust our 'democracy' again, whether we will ever believe that our votes count. We are talking about whether we will allow these United States of America to become a fascist state (some may argue that is already the case).
We need to make our flawed election system the biggest issue in our country. It is so fundamental, so huge and so obvious that no one will touch it. For mainstream media to really address this, well, it would rock this country in a huge way. It is much easier to deny that it is happening.
But we here know it is! Whether you believe Madsen or not, whether you believe this theory or that theory or this statistic or that...almost everyone here acknowledges that FRAUD IS REAL! And it happened AGAIN!!!!
Remember why we fought so hard to get Bush out of office? For many, the fight really was about getting Kerry IN office, but, in my 2 months here at DU, the unifying theme is that Bush and his posse are DANGEROUS. And SHADY. And maybe even flat-out EVIL.
Where is the fire? Where is that passion that drove us out to canvass our neighbors, call out to our community, put bumper stickers on our cars that got us spit on? Where is the spark that lit us up to GOTV in ways most of us had never imagined?
THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO GIVE UP! We have to keep our passion strong and make this the most important issue in our public lives!!!

WE HAVE TO GET OUT ON THE STREETS AND SCREAM AND SHOUT AND MAKE THE CAMERAS FILM US!!!
WE HAVE TO GO TO COLUMBUS THIS SATURDAY!
It has to start now! It doesn't matter what the OH Supreme Court says, it doesn't matter what the recount says. WE KNOW FRAUD HAPPENED!!!! We have to get off the fringe and make this as public as possible!!!

I don't care if I am the only asshole that shows up in Columbus, if I get on TV with a cartoon graphic of a tinfoil hat on my head and I become a laughingstock of the freeper/faux news world. All I know is that it will be hella cold with no warm bodies around me. I know there are lots of folks who want to go and can't. I am glad you will be with us in spirit. I have faith that I won't be alone, but I'd kinda like to hear it right about now.

SO WHO'S WITH ME?????

...there will be a march on all 51 capital cities.

Here's their website: http://www.51capitalmarch.com

I'm going to keep checking in to see how many are actually going to be there. If there is anything else going on in NC, it'll probably be in the NC state forum.

get up there. I live in Virginia. Anybody passing through Southwest Virginia on Rt 81 or 77????

I'll buy all the gas! Also, the only way my hubby would let me go if it was 3-4 females in one car. Also, I'm a smoker. But I would need a ride up there and then one coming home. I'll cover the gas both ways.

Anyone?????

Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 11:38 PM by dmac
Cobb camp today and they said it (the recount) wasn't likely to start until after next week (the 13th?) because Blackwell most likely won't let the recount begin until after the results have been certified by the electors. I would love to be there for the rally but I am coming from GA and I guess I will have to wait to see if I am needed once the recount begins. Is anyone else planning to help in the recount from GA?

So Caligirl, have you been told the recount begins next week? And if so, which group are you representing? (Cobb or Common Cause or who exactly?) I am just trying to organize calendar and leaving everything up in the air is a bit unsettling - especially this time of year.

38. Come to Columbus and Protest ALL DAY and into the NIGHT!
So we all know about the protest for the recounting and fraud efforts in the afteroon and the seminar thing going on in early evening....

I thought it might be useful to point out that this Saturday is Gallery Hop here in Columbus. The one right before Christmas is a HUGE event. The Short North area just north of downtown will be packed with people. It might be useful to make up some literature and go distributing amongst the throngs there. Also, for anyone interested in gay rights issues, the HRC is planning a march to protest the passage of the anti-gay marriage amendment here in Ohio.

There's some info at the Free Press site but I know more is out there on the web...

RALLY! "Investigate all 88 counties, Litigate, Re-Count, Recuse”

Saturday, December 4th,
Columbus, OH
1:00 PM,
Ohio Statehouse Lawn
East Broad & South High Streets,
Columbus, Ohio

We demand that every vote be counted accurately from the Nov 2nd election. We demand a full re-count of Ohio's votes and a thorough investigation of all reported irregularities and discrepancies and charges of voter disenfranchisement throughout the state. The right to vote is a civil right and in a democracy no abridgement of that right can be tolerated. In Kiev, hundreds of thousands of demonstrators are on the streets, staying there overnight in the bitter cold, bringing the government to a halt and the world to attention, refusing to let democracy die. There are people coming to Ohio from all over the country for this rally. Let’s do this.

SPEAKERS:
Greg Palast (journalist and author of The Best Democracy Money Can Buy),
Bill Moss (former Columbus school board member),
Bob Fitrakis (Columbus Free Press),
Reuben Herrera (Adelante - Latino/Latina Democrats),
Anita Rios (Green Party),
Cliff Arnebeck (lead litigant in the Contest of Election suit),
Jad Hummeidan (Council on American Islamic Relations),
Petey Talley (Ohio AFL-CIO) (invited),
Charleta Tavares (Columbus City Council member) (invited)

58. We wish you all the best.
I'm sure it will be a great turnout. Don't neglect to announce the protest to other organizations: other sites covering this issue, league of women voters, democracy now, etc.

Good luck!

62. I'll be there if my son isn't still sick.
He stayed home from school with a sore throat today, but if he's feeling better by Saturday I will be driving 6 hours to be there! I can't wait! Another factor..I'm having a medical procedure done tomorrow and a lot depends on the outcome of that, the results and how I'm feeling on Saturday. I want to go to Columbus SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD!!!!! I NEED to be there!

If there's anyone in Illinois (I'm just south of Chicago) who wants to drive to my house or meet me along the way, you're free to hitch a ride with us! Just PM me. Of course it will all depend on (1.) How my son feels on Saturday (he wants to go really bad too) and (2.) How I feel after my medical procedure. So, if you don't mind a last minute decision, you're free to ride with us. :hi: I should know by tomorrow night whether or not I can go. PM me if you want to go and need a ride. :hi:
