Tom Hanks to Star in 'The Da Vinci Code' Movie (It's official now)
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks has been cast to star in an upcoming movie adaptation of Dan Brown's best-selling mystery "The Da Vinci Code," film studio Columbia Pictures said on Tuesday.

Hanks will play the role of Robert Langdon, the Harvard professor who undertakes a modern-day quest for the Holy Grail in a thriller steeped in purported secrets about the early Christian church.

The film will be directed by Ron Howard from a screenplay by Akiva Goldman and produced by Howard's business partner, Brian Grazer, the same team behind the 2001 Oscar-winning film "A Beautiful Mind."

1. Oh Lord no...
Love Tom Hanks, but this is NOT the role for him. This requires a young Harrison Ford type.

2. How young?
Wasn't Langdon in his forties?

5. Fortyish is about right..
Isn't Harrison late 50's or (gasp) early 60's? He was perfect for the role during his Indiana Jones years.

8. Yeah, after I posted that, I started thinking about it...
He's gettin' up there. I still see him as Indiana Jones and Jack Ryan.

6. Interesting
My wife (Nell) said the exact same thing (nearly word for word) as you did. Personally, I think Hanks will do well in the role.

7. Like others
Tom Hanks is not my mental picture of Robert Langdon, but then I said the same thing about him playing Jim Lovell in Apollo 13 before I saw it. Now I can't think of a more perfect Jim Lovell.

9. William Peterson
Someone at imdb suggested him. I think he would have been great. I was hoping for Tim Robbins. Discuss.

11. I can't stand Tom Hanks
I love Tim Robbins. He would be better on principle. I haven't read the book so I can't reallty say anything else other than the fact that Tom Hanks sucks. His best role was in Big. He really shouldn't do anything other than light hearted friendly comedies. Remember Bosom Buddies. That was a great show.

12. That's a great suggestion!
Problem is that I think Peterson's a quicker wit and thinker than Langdon was in the book. He'd have to dumb himself down a bit to play the role.

14. Although not my first choice...
for the role, I think he is a good choice because he brings a tremendous amount of goodwill from audiences with him to this VERY controversial film.

You just know the religious RW is going to go apeshit BONKERS over this one. :)

15. I wish it was Liam Neeson
someone mentioned him on another thread and I thought it was the best suggestion. He would have been perfect.
