I just watched all of Sci-Fi channel's Battlestar Galactica this week
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 02:13 PM by Cleita
up to the end of season three. I burned out a DVD player in the process. LOL! It was worth it. I am so looking forward to season four, the final season, that starts April 4th. Anybody else looking forward to it? What do you think they will do?

They are heading for earth. The Cylons and humans are starting to crossbreed. How are they going to achieve peace? Since the stories actually reflect what has been happening in our world today, it will be interesting to see how they wrap this up.

1. I'm wondering if they'll end it by landing here, now. Meanwhile,
eldest son and I have to watch those season 3 DVDs! We just watched "Razor!"

3. I just watched razor on DVD last night!
I forgot how creepy it was, but how true to life in a way as well, when people like Cain are in positions of authority.

2. I still have to catch up
I missed most of the recent eps due to a patch of illness and schedule problems.

I've got to admit, I'm feeling pretty smug. I called this about three weeks into Season One -- that WE are the descendants of the (old) Humans and Cylons, and that there are still Cylon "memory ships" out there feeding us back into human existence through some kind of reincarnation. Soon, we will take possession of them and start to re-explore space, looking for the remains of the Colonies.

Next year, the prequel: Caprica, set 50 years before BSG, probably right before the First Cylon War.

4. If they keep up the quality of the production and writing on
the prequel, I will be watching. When the original Battlestar Galactica was canceled and then brought back, they new incarnation really fell apart, when they brought it back for the final season.

10. "Galactica 1980" -- ?
It nearly destroyed the careers of two excellent young actors, Dirk Benedict and Richard Hatch.

Dirk did a great job in The A Team and then survived near-terminal cancer. Richard is currently teaching acting both formally and as a means of social activism and outreach.

But I wasn't all that fond of the first version, either. This one has been absolutely the best thing on TV for three decades or more. A few other shows have matched its level (ER, Hill Street Blues, a couple of other shows), but none have surpassed it.

There was another space-war TV show, Space: Above And Beyond that was nearly at Galactica's level, and its influence is very strong. Only one season was made, but the eps are on DVD, and it's worth buying, it's that good.

(Why only one season? Fox.)

15. Shudder
galactica 80.
Wasn't that all a Hallucination experienced by Baltar after
eating Borrelian Mushrooms?

The newest season seems exciting.

I am of the opinion that:

a) Earth is not a colony, it is an origin.
b) The Lords of Kobol were aliens who abducted humans from Earth and created an "eden" on Kobol. Humans fell from grace.
c) The Lords of Kobol improved the Cylons to their radically enhanced biologic form.
d) Baltar IS A CYLON!!! He is an unknown 13th model.

12. All the better.
Galactica has made heroism human in a way that has seldom existed in SF. Seeing Lee and Kara with big pores and some semi-zits will only enhance the intensity of the storytelling. I read one review that said Tamoh Penikett ("Helo" Agathon), pretty-boy in NTSC, becomes a mature but flawed Adonis in HD. (If I can find it again, I'll post it.)

even got the wife hooked on it. Who do you think is the final Cylon? Here's an interesting article:http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/422026/the_last_cylon_who_is_the_fifth_of.html

btw, have you seen this season 4 promo pic?

It first appeared in an issue of Entertainment Weekly. Interesting if you think about who is in what position in it.

here's an interesting analysis of the pic:http://community.livejournal.com/battlestar_blog/816559.html
and here's a debunking by Chief Tyrol himself. Maybe he's just covering up....

here's what Ron Moore has to say about it:

9. Me too.
I have my own ideas as to how it should work out. It will be interesting to see what the creators do with it.

11. I'm curious too
Adama and company lead the Cylons to us.
Maybe a few tens of thousands of nukes might come in handy.
Cylons or humans only seem to possess a few in the series.
But I so seldom get an apocalyptic space battle on cable these days.
Based on what we have so far whatever comes should be tasty.

13. In the first season, there was a behind the scenes
comment that earth is never found but they aren't supposed to give it away. I think they will find an earth, not necessarily the one we inhabit I wonder if maybe though the earth they reach is one before humans arrive or one where humans have already become extinct waiting to become repopulated.

17. I wouldn't read too much into such a comment
Since Ronald D Moore has been pretty open with the fact that he never knew exactly how he'd end the series.

14. I'm eagerly awaiting the final season premiere on April 4!
That series took me totally by surprise, since I hated the original.

What shocked me the the most was how they were able to get away with telling references to the Iraqi conflict, torture of prisoners, and a rush to judgment of accused. Wonderfully drawn characters, especially Kara Thrace "Starbuck" (Katee Sackhoff) who alternates from being heroic to flawed, and the Cylon "Number Six" (Tricia Helfer) who brings a multidimensional quality to a role that could have been very limited.

16. Been watching Season III since the DVD came out. This is, IMVHO, the best sci-fi
series since Rod's Twilight Zone. If only I didn't have to work. I would have loved to just watch three years worth.

The Sci-Fi channel - a dream come true.

18. I really want to know what Earth they will arrive at.
Will it be our distant past or our distant future? If it's not one or the other, I'm going to be very disappointed.

20. I guess that means lots of stock footage,
and some green-screen with funny matte paintings over them. Or exterior shots of the Marin Civic Center, then quick cuts to an interior that looks the the Design Within Reach stores. If we're lucky, we'll get an arboretum! No sets to dress, no plants to purchase!

21. Just got caught up thru all seasons over last few weeks...
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 09:57 PM by nyrnyr1994
Been very impressed and surprised by the entire series (like someone else commented, I was a bit leery about checking it out b/c of the original). Still have to watch Razor, but now have to wait for season 4.5 until 2009

I couldn't help but unfortunately picture McCain whenever Tigh was on (and apparently many others thought the same):

Now this comparison has taken on another twist, Palin:Roslin?

I guess their party has been taken over by frakking Cylons :wow:

22. Partially yes because she was something like fourteenth in line
for the Presidency, a schoolteacher, and unlikely ever to become President except under these extraordinary circumstances. The big difference though that I see is that Roslin is very competent, even though she makes some mistakes, and in those periods when the Presidency went to Baltar everything went to Hell. He was politically George Bush, although supposedly a brilliant scientist, which we can never accuse Bush of.

23. To paraphrase the signature line from the show...
All of this has happened before (for the last 8 years)...

...but it doesn't have to happen again!

24. had to quick scroll through this thread lol
I watched the first season and loved it! With work and school I forgot about when the second season started and by the time I realized it...the season was half over. So I didn't want to play catch up and ruin story line etc. I've bought season 1 and 2 - and have almost finishes season 2. Probably shouldn't be on this thread but I am a huge fan (from the 2 seasons I have seen).
