not to mention downright gory. It kills me that more people watched that than Lord of the Rings.

19. That I can agree with.
If you really want to hear the difference betwen her and a good singer, find a copy of the Jim Steinman song "All Coming Back to Me." She does it, and some woman with Pandora's Box does it. Listen to the difference, and you'll have even more trouble liking Dion after that.

27. Yeah, that's why it sold less than Gigli, huh?
Because it sucked so badly?

Great film. I can see someone not liking it, but I honestly can't see how anyone would say it was a bad film--especially not the worst ever. C'mon, it was worse that Gigli? Worse than Yor, the Hunter of the Future? Worse than Kelsey Grammar's Christmas Carol?

I mean, I hated Lord of the Rings, but I can see why others didn't, at least. I still wish I could recover those ten hours of my life...

16. I think it worked better at the time
A lot of what it did has become so cliche it pops up on tv shows, but at the time the tension it created was unbearable. The scene with the pen clip drove people insane with the anticipation of what he would do with it.

After that, every one imitated the slow tension and the downplayed realism of the film, so there is less shock value now.

I still can't look at a bottle of Chianta or a plate of Fava beans the same.

I was surprised I liked Casablanca so much. Cool script. Needed a long sex scene and a few car chases with cars plunging off cliffs to explode in multiple angles on the rocks five feet below, but other than that it was pretty good.

Most of the one's on that list.

28. Star Wars (1977) and the sequels
I was a Junior at college when Star Wars was released. It was marketed as a kids movie at that time, although AFI has listed it on the Top 100 American films of all time.

Hell! I had already seen The Godfather, Taxi Driver, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Midnight Cowboy and Easy Rider by the time Star Wars was released. I was in no good mood to see a movie made for little kids.

A girlfriend convinced me to see Star Wars. Well, we had gone to a campus watering hole and got pretty liquored up. I do remember being asked to kindly leave the theater after making a comment about the big golden talking dildo!

35. Don't forget the time consideration.
Frankly, there are some movies I don't see either because I can't schedule the time easily or because watching them will be a huge investment of time. For example, I've read C.S. Lewis but not J.R.R. Tolkien, so I am not intimately acquainted with The Lord of the Rings. True fans of Tolkien can decide whether they will be driven mad by the adaptations or obliged to see it because they are devoted to the series. In my case, it's an investment of hours of time, and I just haven't found or made that block of time. In terms of casting and artistic achievement, the LOTR series strikes me as interesting, though, and I certainly have nothing against filmmaking in New Zealand! :-)

44. Ah man, Alien is my favorite sci fi film of all time!
It captures psychological horror and claustrophobia so well. It's really more horror than sci fi. Aliens is really good, but not as good as Alien as it lacks that psychological, claustrophic element of Alien. After seeing those two, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection are pure crap!

I've never seen...

American Beauty
Sling Blade
The Color Purple
The Shawshank Redemption
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

I just saw "Casablanca" again the other night, (Turner Classic Movies) and actually picked up a whole level of plot I missed in previous viewings. It is a great movie, though on a historical level is it pretty preposterous.

Also, "To Have or Have Not", Lauren Bacall's debut with Bogart, is also great, and was on the night before. "you know how to whistle, don't you? just put your lips together and ..... blow". Full of wonderful sarcastic lines from both Bogart and Bacall.

I finally broke down and saw it for the sole purpose of being able to understand all the parodies of it. I'm glad I did because it is one of the most unintentionally funny movies I have ever seen, and I consider myself something of a connosieur when it comes to cheese cinema.

I've never seen Gone With the Wind either, which means I'll probably have my fag hag card confiscated.
