They couldn't have chosen a more fitting final line. Really, it was the essence of the whole series.

And maybe it was also the pent up energy of watching early 19th century "medicine." Sorry for the spoiler, but that mastectomy scene made me leave the room grasping my breasts. That was truly horrific.

1. Then there is the simple fact that finding that lump meant it was probably ....
already too late, at least in 1803.

That last episode was sad...and so well done. this series has been a delight (and shot partly in my home town!)

2. I covered my eyes
and my husband and I gripped our hands tightly. I can't even imagine having a mastectomy at home without anesthesia. I lost my best friend to ovarian cancer last year... I can't imagine it at all.

They could not even begin to show how awful that surgery was.

7. Oh yeah... I cried, too. Hated to see him go. :(
What struck me the most, and I honestly did NOT know this, was that Adams and Jefferson both died on the same day. And not only that, but that it was July 4, 1826, which just happened to be the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. That is just bizarre. It's like they both waited for that particular day, and then it was somehow OK to go. I am still awestruck by that.

The surgery... ack... well, at least HBO handled it tastefully. I was afraid we'd hear screams, or have to see her right afterward. But they didn't do that. They managed to get the absolute horror of it across without resorting to a graphic representation of the event. Kudos to them for that.

Paul Giamatti had BETTER win an emmy for this performance. This was the role of a lifetime, and his performance was powerful. Laura Linney deserves an emmy, too, IMO.

I thought the make-up people were superb in tonight's episode, too. They aging of the characters was incredibly well done. Very convincing.

Awesome mini-series! HBO did it again. I've got it pre-orderd at Amazon. Gotta have this one.

8. You're NOT pathetic! 'Cause I cried too...
I couldn't watch the screen during the masectomy scene - I'm a breast cancer survivor, and had a masectomy myself, 10 years ago...so it was a wee bit too much for me!

But I started crying when Abigail died, and didn't stop - and by the time TJ and JA died, I was just sobbing!

It was a great miniseries. The acting was excellent, casting was awesome, sets and costumes magnificent, and the writing brought it all together.

9. I didn't cry, but...
...I was completely horrified. I mean, all I did was stare at the TV screen in open-mouthed, wide-eyed terror. I can't even begin to contemplate sitting downstairs while someone was upstairs hacking up my daughter.

That scared the living crap out of me.
