Help - New To IPod And...... |
|
can't seem to charge up the battery. I have both a plug in charge adapter and a USB computer adapter to charge the battery (also sync's with iTunes). When I attach my IPod to either of these - the battery charge doesn't seem to engage. What am I doing wrong? How can I charge the battery?

1. your batter will charge via your computer while updating or sinking |
|
have you let it on overnight? I find for the most part that Ipods are like cell phones, they need constant recharging, even only after a few hours use.

2. Use the wall adapter... |

as sometimes and on some computers, the USB adapter won't pull down enough juice to charge the iPod. Also, you'll need to leave it charged in for a while for the first time before you set about using it. You'll know if it is charging if the battery icon in the upper right portion of the screen has a little lightning bolt icon in it - are you not getting that icon?
Also, if it is a used iPod the battery might be shot. There are places, however, where you can order a diy battery replacement kit for 20 bucks or so versus sending it to Apple and having them replace it for a couple hundred. If that's the case, don't be too intimidated - it's a fairly easy procedure.

Here's the obligatory "Aren't I witty by helping you solve your problem by telling you to get the competitor's product" reply.

4. Well, they don't make a big show of it. |
|
The little battery icon should show a "lightening bolt' and just barely pulse, showing the charging is going on.

5. In iTunes, it should show your iPod on the left side under devices. |
|
When you have it connected, it should show it. Now, when it needs to charge, there will be an icon next to the name of your iPod in the left area to show that it is charging.
As others have said, the battery icon in the upper right on your iPod should also show a little lightning bolt to indicate charging.
If neither is happening, it is possible that you have a bad cable, maybe a bad iPod.

7. It Used To Be - When Connected - The Battery Icon Would Appear and Say Charging..... |
|
it doesn't do that now - it just says do not disconnect - which stays on indefinately. I just hooked up to the computer using USB and had iTunes running - it looks like it is charging now. Thanks.

6. Does your iTunes recognize your iPod? |
|
Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 12:26 PM by patrice
Also, I think iTunes has to be up and running (on the task line at least) to charge the iPod.
On edit: I have had trouble getting my iPod to show up (on the left) in my iTunes, if I didn't have the iPod connected to my computer, by means of the USB port, before I booted my computer up and opened iTunes.
