I attended a Los Lobos/ Los Lonely Boys concert and I know... |
|
that the Mexican and Mexican American music I have been hearing all around me, all these years is a part of My American Culture. It can not be denied.
If you have ever worked in food, hospitality or any service based industry you have most likely heard this music playing away in some backroom.
Take time to really listen...

has been my salvation ever since the nineties, when pop was taken over by corporate-manufactured no-talents.

4. Los Lobos is one of the most prolific bands ever... |
|
They have an incredible body of work behind them and they have released many timeless albums. Check out "Kiko" or "Just another band from L.A."
Anyone who remembers them only for "La Bamba" is missing out on so much more.
Los Lonely Boys...these boys are tight. I've seen them live in Kansas City (basically in my backyard) at the City Market in the rain. They smoked.
If you like this kind of music check out Del Castillo. Bartcop turned me on to these guys, and I caught them in Kansas City a few years ago. It was 103 by the time they took the stage. They cooked. Flaming guitar playing, that will blow you away. Three brothers, three guitars. Scorching.

I used to get MTV en Español with my current level of TV cable... now I'll have to order the next level and pay more to receive it..
I enjoyed hearing music by La Ley and Maná and even Molotov..
I used to play around with the cooks in the kitchen when I was a young waitress.. telling them what songs on their radio I liked and didn't like.. Now I know that those early beginnings were my introduction to my life long love of music from everywhere.

8. They are so tight you just revel in the sound... |
|
Their harmony is beyond just familial and on "How Far Is Heaven" the song almost sounds spiritual.
All three Garza Brothers know their instruments very well...They have a large West Texas sound in there, also.
They are really cute lookin'...

Been a fan since "Will the Wolf Survive". I've washed so many parts with their first 2 albums on that the smell of "Gunk Engine Brite" makes me think of the guitar in "Don't Worry Baby". Then Garza boys ain't too shabby either....

9. Los Lobos played and sang an amazing version of "Guantanamera ".. |
|
Friday night...very Traditional style.
They are still there and more after so many years..
We've seen them perform near a dozen times in the last 30 years or so.. I still have a crush on Steve Berlin..who plays keyboard also...and flute.. besides the sax.
Both Cesar and Dave came on stage and played with Los Lonely Boys...good stuff.
