True Blood
Paquin's performance is amazing, she is going to hold this series together.

11. Can't get enough of True Blood
I've been haunting the message boards on HBO, reading everything about True Blood the series and the books it's based on. There's even a political thread on the message boards! I am tempted to read the books but I think I'll wait until the series is over -- from what I see on the message boards Alan Ball has deviated a lot from the books. Some of the fans of the books say that they are torn between the books and the great job HBO is doing with this.

As for the 15 year old, I would not allow a 15 year old to watch -- particularly the early scenes with the S&M stuff.

6. I'm hooked.
I was not familiar with the books, but I'm absolutely hooked on the series. I can't wait until tomorrow for episode #4. I particularly enjoy his social commentary. If vampires get the vote, I'm guessing Bill is a democrat.

9. Question -- is the series appropriate for a 15 year old?
I've read the books, as has my 15 year old daughter and we both want to watch the series. My sister is taping the series for me and she says that it's too sexually explicit for a 15 year old but my daughter really wants to watch it. I haven't watched yet, do you guys agree that it's inappropriate for a 15 year old?

10. I think not
I have 2 daughters, a 17 year old and a 14 year old. Although i think they would enjoy the story and the characters, HBO has very much made this an adult program. Maybe if they release it on cable, cleaned up, like they did with Sex and the City, but as it is now, no.

12. There's a very heavy sexual/S&M component...
to the series -- very graphic in nature.

I would hesitate to let someone under 18 view it, honestly.

14. The first episode was HORRIBLE.
I honestly didn't see the show making it (Obviously HBO didn't see it that way because they've already picked it up for a second season). But it's grown on me. The last episode was the best so far and the latest cliff hanger (They are good at those) has upped the ante.

I read some of the books, True Blood is based on. The plot is only very ruffly following the books. But the tone of the HBO series is so different from the books it almost makes it unrecognizable almost unrecognizable as Dead Until Dark, to me anyway. The books are basically chick lit some where between a romance and mystery novel. But books don't have anywhere near the graphic level of sex in them. And there is zero description of Jason Stackhouse's antics in the books. I find watching Jason screw up so much, kind of painful. The characters in the HBO series are dumber and hasher, than they are in the books. I keep wondering if they threw in the sex scenes to make sure it drew in a male audience. I'd like the series better if they had someone else playing Bill Compton. I can't tell if the guy playing Compton just can't act, or if director idea of how a vampire would behave is deadpan.

The camera alway seem to be uncomfortably close to Anna Paquin face and showing too many pores. Did Anna Paquin go light on the make up, or is this because this is one of the first things I've watched on a 32" screen?

16. I love this show
it's funky, witty, and edgy. The main characters are not what you initially see on the surface. Lafayette and Tara are by far my favorite characters I haven't read the books yet (though I just purchased the first); but I plan on viewing them as two separate entities.

17. I've been catching up on On Demand and I think the reviewers were
a bit harsh, from the ones I previously read. This is a very good show. Unfortunately, I think a comparison is alsways lurking and this show isn't up there with Six Feet Under, but it certainly holds it's own. The townspeople are all well developed and interesting in there own right. And Anna Paquin is fantastic.

22. Who's the killer? I just re-watched ep 1 & 2--and noticed a few more things:
Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 06:01 PM by Doityourself
Like:

Only Sam & Sookie knew that Bill was a vampire when he first walked in..

When Sookie said: Wow, I'm surprised no one else knew you were a vampire, and Bill nodded toward Sam and said, "he does?"

When the dog licked Sookie in the woods, when she rescued Bill from that couple, Bill said to her, "he likes you" and Sookie said, it's just some dog that lives close by..and Bill said "no doubt!"

Also...

In episode #2: When Sookie left Sam's office, they showed a picture on the wall of a little blonde girl with a band of flowers around her head and a dog sitting there looking over her?? What is that about?

Is Sam a shapeshifter or a guardian angel?

Oh edited to add: I think the killer is the dude with the heavy Naw AwLeans accent, can't think of his name. Rusty, maybe?

24. After the series started, I read the books
So I know who the killer is. I think. Alan Ball has created this wonderful series based on the first book in the series, but he has taken so many detours, and introduced new elements, so now I'm not so sure. It makes watching the show even more fun than I thought it would be.

26. I think...
...it's that crazy Iraq war veteran guy. But I really have no idea.

I wonder if the killer will be revealed before this season is over?

I absolutely LOVE this show. And I'm not usually into the HBO series, or sitcoms, or anything like that. I actually flipped by HBO one time and saw the overacting, and thought "god, HBO has gone to crap." Then I happened to catch it again while flipping channels, watched it through, and became absolutely hooked. Rarely do I change my schedule around to watch something, or look forward to a show, but dammit if I can't help it when it comes to Trueblood.

I wonder if they will show a complete marathon sometime? I believe I missed the first episode or two.

At Sookie's house after "you know" dies.

Bill and Sam are both there to comfort her, and they get into a dick size match. Bill says... "I don't think this is the time for you to be marking your territory."

Now you know who the killer is.

The cajun accented guy is Rene.

34. Just watched season one on dvd
Loved it! I wanted to see it because it was created by Alan Ball, and "Six Feet Under" was one of my favorite shows.

I had recently read the book "Twilight" to see what the big deal was (it was ok; no real desire to read the follow-up books or see the movie). I thought that "True Blood" would be like a "Twilight" for adults.

Not at all. The whole premise of vampires "coming out of the coffin" and being a minority is fascinating. Love all the charactors. I also love the shot of the church in the credits with the "God hates fangs" sign; cracks me up.

I read the first book while watching the series. That was kind of interesting; the basic plot is the same (someone murdering fang-bangers), but there were a lot of differences. I have read the first 3 books in the series now and have really enjoyed them.

I'll have to wait until season 2 is realeased on dvd to see it as I don't get HBO anymore.

HBO has had so many series that I have really enjoyed; "Six Feet Under", "Sex and the City", "Carnivale", "Deadwood", "Oz"; it's no wonder they win so many awards.

35. Just watched everything up till this week on Saturday
I find Paquin terrible in this role. Cannot see how she got Golden Globes, etc. Terrible, distracting, and annoying (though that is partially the character/writing).

Love the show, though. Especially Lafayette. If they kill him off, I might stop watching.

Hate the Maryann subplot.

I was thrilled to see him in the first show of season 2. I love how Alan Ball is taking these wonderful characters that Charlaine Harris created, and tweeking them and adjusting things until they become his. Love the books, Love the show. Love love love Vampire Bill!
