I'm disappointed. "Flash Gordon" won't have a second season.

I'm disappointed. "Flash Gordon" won't have a second season.
I used to read the comic when I was a kid. I thoroughly enjoyed this updated current version of it. Instead of a different planet in the solar system they updated it to a different dimension with a sort of worm hole that they pass through. It was well written, with tongue in cheek humor and an alien world that was both exotic but also familiar echoing our own politics on our world. I'm really disappointed they won't renew it. To me it was much better than some of the more popular shows on the Sci Fi Channel.

1. Me too
It got better and better as the season progressed. I hope it at least gets a dvd release and maybe a 2 hour follow-up to tie up loose ends.

2. It got better?

I tried watching a couple early episodes. I felt that it was quite horrible - writing, storyline, everything. It was pretty universally panned over in the DU SF group as well, if I recall correctly.

3. It did.
But the problem is people were waiting for the old comic book Flash Gordon instead of a fresh look at it. I think this is why it didn't get off the ground. I really wish they would run it again to pick up a wider audience. You know "Northern Exposure" was run as a summer fill in and didn't pick up much of a viewership until they ran the first season again and people started to tune into what it was about. Sometimes it takes awhile to catch on.

4. I wasn't familiar with the comic book FG

So I didn't have any expectations at all, frankly. The only expectation was to be better than the movie that had the Queen soundtrack.

And it was better. Unfortunately, that didn't make it watchable for me.

5. I'm not surprised it will not go on.
I'm a sci-fi TV fan and I found the show unwatchable. Frankly, the old cartoon series from the 70s or 80s was better.

6. I guess different strokes.
I thought they did a good job of reflecting our society in a sci-fi way. I know they were on a shoe string budget but I think it would have gotten better with time and money.
