Vampires, sex make 'Blood' a hit
We'll have to wait until summer to watch season 2 of True Blood. :-(

Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer
star in "True Blood," which has
become a hit.

Vampires, sex make 'Blood' a hit

NEW YORK (AP) -- Catching the wave of a public fascination with vampires, HBO's "True Blood" has steadily increased in stature to become the cable network's most popular series since "The Sopranos" and "Sex and the City."

Based on the series of Sookie Stackhouse novels written by Charlaine Harris and starring Anna Paquin in the lead character's role, "True Blood" has grown its Sunday night viewership by 66 percent since its debut in September.

The first season finale airs this Sunday, with a second season already in production.

"True Blood" casually imagines a world where vampires, telepathic women and "shape shifters" -- people who can assume the shapes of animals -- are a part of everyday life in a small Louisiana town. A steamy romance between Paquin's waitress and Bill the brooding vampire, portrayed by Stephen Moyer, stands at the show's center.

1. I love it too!
I bought the books, several in the series which the show is based upon. Great entertainment and a welcome break from politics.

3. "True Blood" and "Dexter" are the only TV shows we watch. Both are
excellent! Storylines are fresh and interesting, and dang, you just can't wait until the next week...

4. It has gotten progressively better. I still think it's a tad overrated.
Very predictable.

7. I'm with you on that, plus
is it just me or are those southern accents completely over the top? Why couldn't they have cast some southern actors in those parts?

9. i am mad at sookie.
bill kills a fellow vampire to protect sookie. he does what he has to do to get back to sookie after court and here she's kissing sam. it was only one night, damn sookie. she knew there was something between tara and sam, that is against homegirl rules. i love lafayette and jason (his body is smoking but not much going on between the ears. i like to hear the cajun speak-sexy. i am going through withdrawal already. they better not pull a carnival and not bring it back.

15. Think of it this way
This is the first real romantic relationship she has ever had, so it is not surprising that she has the maturity level of a high school sophomore when it comes to men.

17. We won't know until summer!
Who attacked LaFayette? It couldn't have been Bill Compton for her knew LaFayette. It was probably that ex-fundie vampire newbie that no one can deal with.

18. LA Times take on last episode of True Blood
Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 09:18 PM by IndianaGreen
We finally learned that Arlene’s man Renee is in fact the killer though the writers certainly made it seem like Sam could be the culprit.

“I think that was the plan. There were a number of red herrings thrown out there,” according to Sam, “I don’t think anyone was counting on it, but I do think Alan was hoping people might view me as a mysterious and perhaps suspicious character.”

So, we know Sam is a shape shifter but Rutina says there will be more to his story that will be revealed. Sam confirms this is true.

“The writers are coming up with a lot of that right now as we speak, but yes, Sam has a colorful past, hints of which will be revealed Sunday night. It was a long road from being 16 and abandoned to opening Merlotte’s bar in Bon Temps.”

And finally…spoiler alert… Sam spills the beans that besides multiple cliffhangers in the finale their will be at least one death – “A juicy one” he promises.

Anyone remembers Michelle Forbes as Ensign Roh in Star Trek Next Generation, or as Admiral Cain in Battlestar Galactica?

'True Blood' adds four as regulars

September 26, 2008 Guest stars Mehcad Brooks, Todd Lowe, Deborah Ann Woll and Michelle Forbes have been upped to regulars for the show's recently ordered second season. The season closer of Alan Ball's vampire drama will mark Brooks' first showing as Benedict "Eggs" Talley, a mellow, guitar-strumming refugee from a hard life. "Gilmore Girls" alum Lowe debuted his character Terry Bellefleur in Episode 2.

19. I Knew It Was Rene
According to Soap Opera Laws, it was obvious: Arlene was just too damn happy.

21. This show is overrated
I thought it was horrible at first. I do admit it's getting better. The Sam as shapeshifter is intriguing. They also hint at other creatures showing up (werewolves!). But a lot of these characters are just plain unpleasant. Jason is gross and I wish he'd die. I do like Tara and Lafayette. The thing that gets me the most is the fake effects. The clicking fangs are amateurish and really pathetic looking. I saw realer looking fangs on kids at Halloween. The Lestat wannabe/blond vamp is a real bore. But as I said it is getting better and I'm still watching, but this is far from a great show.
