I have been hearing nothing but rave reviews. Everyone says the same thing: slow 1st reel, but with lots of necessary exposition that explains all the action that comes later.

2. A friend of mine just saw it and he said it was a solid 'good.'

3. Dumber than a box of rocks, but fun watching Liam Neeson kick ass
The daughter is the worst actress I've ever seen in my life though. I hated how she and her mother were written. You really have to turn your brain off, but that's what we want in movies sometimes. I do. I saw Taken, after all.

Still, there are a lot of movies playing (depending on where you live) that I'd recommend way more than Taken. Slumdog Millionaire, Milk, Gran Torino, The Wrestler, Waltz With Bashir, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Defiance, Doubt, Frost/Nixon, Coraline, The International, Push, The Reader, The Class, The Dark Knight (which is now back in some theaters), Revolutionary Road...they're all better than Taken.

But, none of them have Liam Neeson kicking ass, which is great fun to watch.

4. It was pretty decent
Nothing great and there were some really convenient plot contrivances that had me shaking my head. But I wanted to see this film because the trailer grabbed me right away with Liam Neeson telling those scumbags, "I will find you.." Neeson is a badass and it's fun to see him kicking the asses of people who would sell young women into sexual slavery. I think everyone likes a good revenge movie.
