The Number One Ladies' Detective Agency |

HBO just never misses. I just watched the premiere episode tonight and it looks to be another Sunday night hit for HBO.
Anyone else see it?

2. My wife has read most of the books. . . |
|
we were discussing the and, as I said it was a "series," I thought it may not follow the books but rely instead on new, short-stories written for the show to match a television format.
Are you familiar with the novels? And did tonight's show follow the book, or will the series rely on original material?
Thanks for your input. We don't subscribe to HBO, so won't watch the series until its syndicated or released to DVD, and are curious.

4. It's actually a series of novels by Alexander McCall Smith. . . |
|
My wife's read 7 or more of the, and there's at least another one or two available. I've not read any of them but my wife truly enjoys them. Here's the first one on Amazon. From the link, I see it's a "movie tie-in edition," so I guess the first episode of the show was based on the first book. http://www.amazon.com/No-1-Ladies-Detective-Agency-Movie/dp/0307456625/ref=pd_bbs_11?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1238390255&sr=8-11

11. Yes, Jill Scott is perfect |

and I love her relationship with the tow truck guy but the secretary is just annoying. I would have fired her.

6. I was shocked at how much I liked it . The show was charming. |
|
And I usually hate "charming." The show was authentically charming and I laughed out loud a FEW times. The ending showing her now defaced sign was great: "Fat Lady stealing husband detective agency." It was filmed beautifully too.

7. Thanks HBO for showing it but it's a BBC production. I've read... |
|
all those books and they are charming (gag) but very thoughtful. What was especially surprising is that the author is a white man who lived in Zimbabwe and Botswana (he is from Scotland). He captured the perspective perfectly. I have recorded it and will watch it tonight, but I highly recommend the series of books. A new one is coming out in April.
