The pay cable network has given a 10-episode order to an envelope-pushing comedy series about a housewife-turned-pot dealer starring Mary-Louise Parker.
``Weeds'' centers on a suburban mom, played by Parker, who turns to selling pot to make a living after her husband dies unexpectedly.
Even as she embarks on her new career in the underground economy in the fictional California town of Agrestic, Parker's character struggles to maintain outward appearances as a responsible mother and PTA member. Elizabeth Perkins co-stars as the uptight head of the PTA, while Kevin Nealon plays one of the town's city council members.

``Weeds'' hails from creator/executive producer Jenji Kohan. Brian Dannelly, who recently worked with Parker in the satirical comedy ``Saved!'' directed the pilot and will serve as a producer on the series.
