Experts: Full criminal probe in Jackson case
Source: Associated Press

LOS ANGELES — The odd array of evidence police collected from Michael Jackson's personal physician's clinic and storage unit shows authorities are trying to follow a trail of drugs and looking into the doctor's record keeping as they attempt to unravel what led to the pop star's death.

Search warrants targeting Dr. Conrad Murray's Houston clinic and his storage unit mean authorities have moved into a full-fledged criminal investigation, looking toward the kind of court case they could build against the physician, legal experts said Friday. "This is no longer a cause of death investigation," said attorney Mark Geragos, who once represented Jackson. "This is about building a criminal case."

Loyola University law professor Laurie Levenson said she expects to see search warrants served at more places associated with Murray and for investigators to be interviewing his employees. "I do think they believe there's high suspicion that he may be responsible" for Jackson's death, she said.

Los Angeles police and Drug Enforcement Administration agents executed the warrants Wednesday. The language in the documents said the evidence is being gathered as part of a manslaughter investigation targeting Murray.

2. This is a worthless investigation. Who cares?
This will be another OJ, Laci Peterson or Natalee Holloway type circus which will eclipse news that really matters.

4. you might wish for that, but I think the man had more integrity in his little finger than you could
ever muster up even if you tried.

To make a statement like you just made, is made of shallow
indifference to a really
loving and powerful icon.

Wait until that movie comes out and you will see people wake
up and not let the
government run itself without their input, which is their job
and they have been lazy.

He was saying "THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU" and
honking car horns.

He was obviously playing for GM on this one. That could have
helped a lot. To save
unions, to save the wages of GM folks who were being trimmed
from $41 per hour to $26.

While bankers are getting bonuses for taking businesses
down... that is quite stupid to allow.

This sucks.. He could have united us. He was in love and
inspired and I hate you people
who don't get it and I want karmic revenge on the ones who
killed him.

5. I disagree. This is not being done to honor Michael Jackson but
only to advance the careers of some DAs and cops. Just like that fake trial in Santa Barbara.

This investigation has nothing to do with Michael Jackson except to usurp his celebrity for publicity.

7. Why is it worthless to pursue a physician who may have prescribed or administered
drugs illegally or who may have done so negligently which ultimately caused a person's death? Doctors are not above the law.

14. Exactly. Any doctors prescribing that drug for any reason for ANYONE outside
of a hospital surgical setting with an anesthesiologist present needs his license yanked and needs to be in prison, IMO. Michael Jackson or the guy next door - no matter.

It's pure negligence and NO AMOUNT OF MONEY should cause a doctor with any sense of ethics or integrity to DO SOMETHING SO STUPID - and then to try and get away with it as Murray seemingly has. The guy is a greedy scumbag and a quack.

3. I am so happy people care about Michael Jackson. He was about to
wake us all up. I am really looking forward to the movie of
his rehearsal process.
And I am so sad for the potential love relationship with that
blonde guitarist
who was finally someone who could keep this intensively and
highly positive soul
amused and open to being loved.

Fuckers, I hate the Cheney death squads and I hope their karma
calls us forth to witness their demise.
Michael was a powerful mover and shaker and had more guts then
most.

6. wow . . . "He was about to wake us all up"? . . .
I think that's stretching it just a bit . . . but I do agree that there are probably a whole lot of people responsible for Michael's untimely death, including any number of "doctors" who were prescribing any and every drug that he wanted or needed . . . it certainly needs looking into, imo . . .

while I wasn't a huge MJ fan by any means, I feel sad that with all the riches and fame he garnered, he couldn't find happiness in this life . . . maybe he will in the next . . .

8. preliminary report?
There may be a preliminary report on the cause of death. But (as a big thread on DU notes) there is also plenty of harassment by cops, DEA, and even Texas Medical Board.

9. What led to his death was Michael's drug addiction.
If not this doctor, someone else. It's that's simple.

10. If this doctor was functioning as a drug dealer
and was doing things outside of standard practice, he's going to be held accountable for it.

16. From your mouth to God's ears...
If there was foul play of any sort, may justice be done for ONCE in Michael's life.
