'Star Wars' Sequel Violates Actor's Union Rules
Oldman Quits 'Star Wars' Sequel
16 September 2004 (WENN)

Wild actor Gary Oldman has pulled out of the next Star Wars movie because he refuses to work overseas illegally. The Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban star had agreed to be the voice of evil Jedi knight killer General Grievous in Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith, but quit the production because it was made outside the Screen Actor's Guild rules. Oldman's spokesman explains, "Gary was excited and looking forward to working on the film. The snag is that the movie is being made without members of the Screen Actor's Guild. It means Gary would have been working illegally overseas. Out of respect and solidarity with the other members, he could not and would not consider violating the rules of his union."

2. Love Gary Oldman the actor, but isn't the guy a hard core Republican?
I remember him making a big fuss over the way Republicans were portrayed in "The Contender", a great film btw. Jeff Bridges kicks ass, and so does Gary Oldman even if he is a repuke.

Jimmy Stewart was a Republican too, but he seem more of one in the spirit of the Eisenhower era. He was a decorated Air Force Bomber Pilot in WWII, and lost a son who had died while serving in Vietnam. This man was not the double talking hypocrit Repuke we meet so often today. A Republican he may have been, but a great actor and a decent man is how I remember him best.

3. When did Gary Oldman become a citizen?
He was born in the UK.

Do you have a link to his Republicanism?

Just for the record, I think Gary Oldman is an incredibly talented and gifted actor, unlike the no talent other Repuke actors like Tom Selleck or Meatheads like Governator Ah-Nold.

6. It's weird how a self-identifying conservative could show solidarity with
the working man like that.

I read an interview with Russian-born hockey player Alexander Molginy who says that as a naturalized US citizen he votes Republican. In the same interview he engaged in a very smart anti-imperliast criticism of what Russia is doing in Chechnya -- which was interesting because he's a Russian -- and he then linked that to Iraq and 9/11 (IIRC).
