Dr. Strangelove on TCM tonight at 6 pm EST
I just watched it again for the first time in years. It is brilliant, hysterically funny yet also frightening. Although it is based on the Cold War, it is instructive for our current culture of war.

It has one of the greatest movie lines ever:
"the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids."

Fantastic performances by Peter Sellers, George C. Scott, and Slim Pickins.

If you haven't seen it in a while, tape it.

1. "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the WAR ROOM!"
That's one of those movies that literally has brilliance radiating from it in every scene.

Or my personal favorite, "Well I reckon' this is it. Nuclear combat toe to toe with the Rooskies."-Dons cowboy hat and patriotic music.

Did you know that Kubrick had originally envisioned the film as a serious drama? But while he was writing the script everything about the situation just seemed so absurd to him that he eventually decided to tell it as a black comedy. So he called in Terry Southern, and the rest is history.

8. Slim Pickens riding the bomb down
is one of the great images in cinema, and one of the best commentaries on over-the-top patriotism. Mocks the macho strut of Dubya, like much of the film.

George C. Scott was great, too.
