Aunt Jemimah, Mother of All Comfort Food?
Some other?

... goddess of the Right Wing.
Perhaps Nuke-em-all, God of PNAC Peace.
Or maybe (for the Fundies) St. Befuddlement, patron saint of the Bush Administration.
(GREAT POST!)

12. Would my post have been more or less sexist if I asked about gods? |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-13-06 09:23 PM by TechBear_Seattle
What got me thinking about this was a discussion with friends about various manifestations of the Triple Goddess. The question was which was mightier, the Chocolate Trio (Swiss Miss, Mocha and Lady Godiva) or the Pancake Mothers (Betty Crocker, Mrs. Butterworth and Aunt Jemimah) but as tends to happen when pagans and ex-pagans discuss theology, the subject wandered a bit.
I was curious as to what other DUers might think. No insult or misogyny was intended, quite the opposite. :hi:

in a sexist, patriarchal society like the one we live in - where generally the all powerful (or so they say) GOD is thought of as male and few people think of the Goddess (symbolically or otherwise) as having any power - to put up really stupid ideas of the Goddess - just makes it all the worse.
That's how it sounded to me.

14. Well, we have Althea, goddess of wisdom, right? But, |
|
my absolute fave is Persephone, the goddess of spring, daughter of Demeter, who was violently abducted by Hades and languished in the underworld until she got sprung and returned to Upper Earth. But before she could get back, Hades tricked her into eating the pomegranate seeds to get her to return to Hades for 3 months of every year. Demeter was furious.
And THAT, dear children is the reason (according to the Greeks)that we have winter!

Goddess of the thoroughly banal. She descended from the Big Empty to make us tremble before the sacred powers of marketing and brainless consumerism. Jettison all fruitless pursuit of quality and ability, and you too may one day be thrust up our noses as One Who Matters. Paris shows the way. She is perfect.

We prayed mightily to St. Debbie to grant us parking on crowded Los Angeles streets.
Our prayers were often answered, too.

24. I thought it was Doris Day |
|
In all of her movies, there is at least one time where she drives to the downtown during the business day, and the ONE OPEN PARKING SPOT within a mile is right in front of the building she needs.
Most certainly, that requires divine power.

27. Lady Justice and all those are cool |
|
Statue of Liberty, Lady Justice and Marianne (the leader of the french revolution in the painting by Delacroix) are all cool. Then there's Dame Fortune, also known as Lady Luck.
Mnemosyne, the Goddess of Memory.
Why not make up more goddesses, and dig up the forgotten ones as well?
