From a Forbes article I read regarding Saddam Hussein's execution.
Associated Press
Saddam Hussein Executed in Baghdad
By CHRISTOPHER TORCHIA and QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA 12.30.06, 11:25 AM ET

The statement made was . . .

The Iraqi prime minister's office released a statement that said Saddam's execution was a "strong lesson" to ruthless leaders who commit crimes against their own people.

That statement made me think of just one word . . . NEXT!

******************************************************************

another paragraph that stood out for me in the article was one of a soldier stating what we all have been saying all along and he obviously didn't give a big whoop as he gave them his name.

"First it was weapons of mass destruction. Then when there were none, it was that we had to find Saddam. We did that, but then it was that we had to put him on trial," said Spc. Thomas Sheck, 25, who is on his second tour in Iraq. "So now, what will be the next story they tell us to keep us over here?"

********************************************************************

Why post this in Religion/Theology? I remember something somewhere in the Bible about the "Last Martyr" and the end-o-days. Anyone else remember anything about this? The last Martyr is suppose to start the series of events of the Apocalypse. Anyone?

1. The lesson for dictators is that if you don't have wmd...
...then your country may be invaded under the pretext that you're hiding wmd, ultimately bringing about your execution.

Better for a dicatator to build up wmd and be open about it as a deterrent.

2. I had to do a little research
Edited on Sat Dec-30-06 03:04 PM by ayeshahaqqiqa
as I don't know much about Apocolyptical things. I found a website I tried to wade through that was basically a minute discussion of the fine points of Revelation. This is what they had to say about the last martyr:

Therefore, it is proper to say that the "first resurrection" occurs BEFORE Revelation 20, but AFTER the last martyr has been killed by Antichrist. (boldface mine)

http://www.geocities.com/~lasttrumpet/firstres.html

I just read that little tidbit, especially as to who was to kill the last martyr, and left it at that. If you can enlighten me more on specifics, that would be great!

Many have said that GWB is the Antichrist, and he's essentially responsible for Hussein's death.

What happens next? ;-)

8. Pope John Paul publicly said that he believed that Bush was the
antichrist. It was in a lot of magazines so. I know I read it in the Catholic Times a long time ago before Pope John Paul died. His assistants stated that he would get all excited and animated when he talked about Bush, and how he felt that God had made him pope at the same time for a reason. He was only disappointed that he had gotten so old and sickly and felt he would have problems with his fight with evil. Now this came out of a Pope's mouth. Then the pope met Bush. He was very uncomfortable. Wonder what they talked about? Of course, Bush didn't meet John Paul until after the pope was almost completely feeble.

Here is one article regarding the last pope and then it switches over automatically to what the signs of the end-o-times will be?????

Such has been the prophecy of St. Malachy, an Irish bishop who at his death in 1148 A.D. was discovered to have left behind a prophetic list of all future popes beginning with Pope Celestine II, whose papacy began in 1143 A.D.

The next pope, according to Malachy, "supposedly" is to be the final pope and he will cause a division in the catholic church by naming himself "Peter," which was the disciple who was the first pope. That is why no other pope has taken that name. This so-called last Pope defies everyone within the church by taking the name Peter and causes a huge break within the Cardinals and infighting. Should be interesting to see if this happens.

When we were waiting for the new pope to be announced, according to the prophecy of St. Malachy, the next pope would be Benedict XIV right.. Low and behold that's the name he took. According to Malachy, when Benedict passes, if the next pope takes the name Peter, well then it will be like a Twilight Zone Movie . . .maybe?

7. Well in my comment after the first paragraph regarding dictators
and my response was "NEXT" I meant a whole list of American leaders who are wanted in other countries for crimes against humanity. I think we should start with the most recent and work our way back. Justice is justice, right?

I find it interesting that the last Martyr is killed by the anti-christ. So fitting. As far as any more information, I just remember hearing something about a final martyr and the apocolypse started. I really don't remember where or when. Probably in some movie or book I read.

6. It's been known since the nineteenth century that the Apocalypse in ..
.. Revelation refers to Nero. The earliest Christians did not recognize the book and some of us still consider its inclusion in the canon a mistake.

9. Nero! All that is about Nero? Seems I saw something about that
on the Discovery channel but no one knows for sure.

I read something on Dante's Peak as well and from what I can tell, Dumbya is going to level 7 because he is "a war president" and damn proud of it. (oh only if it were true).
