Global Warming and the Apocolypse? |
|
I have a question for the Conservative Christians here - If we are suppose to encounter a world ending apocolypse soon, then can that event be brought upon by Global Warming/Climate change?
Or is God's will Global warming and He plans to eliminate the Humans from this earth for our sins, etc.
As Christians, should we try to change God's plans or go along with Global warming?
Or are we just too Lazy to do anything? Laziness wins.

He's not going to let us get ourselves in trouble. He's always advocated wasteful and consumerist lives of wealth, so he's going to make sure that nothing bad happens to us for living them. :sarcasm:
Seriously, I have run into this all the time. But this issue is to important to let slide and laugh them off as crazies. Here is what I do:
If you are a Christian:
1) Remind them of Torah stories where God gets pissed and kills everybody 2) Remind them that Christ did NOT advocate wealth or waste, but lived simply 3) Remind them the older generations lived much more simply and sustainably then we do, and give the impression that maybe what we are getting here is a hint that we need to go back to that simpler way of living. They will usually accept this.
If you are not a Christian, just cut to the punchline, say it seems that we are getting pushed into a simpler more old fashioned way of living than we are living now.
Generally, conservative Christians will accept this more constructive narrative as an alternative to the end times narrative.

4. Nah. I think it has to be from a war fought in Israel |
|
But it can't be until after the Temple is rebuilt. I believe that "Armeggedon" refers to a hill somewhere in Israel where the apocalyptic battle is supposed to take place.
I think global warming isn't supposed to matter because all the true Christians will have been raptured by then anyway.

5. Are there any Conservative Christians here at all? |
|
DU really isn't the place to look for them. I suppose if you mean "those whose version of Christianity is conservative", there are some - that would be mainstream Catholic, Orthodox and maybe some of the first established Protestant Churches like Lutherans. But they tend not to believe in an imminent apocalypse - that's a relatively recent belief among Christians. If you mean "Christians whose political outlook is conservative", then I doubt you'll find them on DU.
I think I may have seen one DUer say they believe an apocalypse will happen, and could happen soon. It's certainly a very unusual belief on DU.
