Jack Chick takes on the tooth fairy
Parents, don't tell your kids about the tooth fairy, Easter bunny or Santa, or they might end up on death row:

Never tell your kids stories: it's just not worth the risk.

4. Not for a long, long, time I hope...
...where else can you find such clear and irrefutable examples of the relationship between religion and psychosis?

It's important to keep that relationship in mind, especially for those of us who are people of faith. An Awful Warning, as it were, that helps remind us that our religion is our business, and that when we start feeling the urge to make others as "holy" as we are, it's time to talk to the doctor about the balance of chemicals in our brains.

Jack Chick, repulsive as he may be, is also one of the most effective illustrations of the consequences of NOT doing so. If Chick Comix can save ONE ordinary person of faith from turning into a psychotic nutjob through timely self-examination and/or seeking help, isn't it worth it?

piously,
Bright

5. The only problem with that is...
there are plenty of Christians who love Chick and leave his "craps" everywhere. For every person he scares away, how many gullible, judgmental, holier-than-thous are sucked in? I have no idea, but it worries me.

6. Sadly that is a problem.
He attracts those who are filled with hate. He justifies their hatred and cruel treatment of other people, so they embrace him. He is dangerous, though I do believe that he is marginal. I don't kow anybody who truly believes the nonsense that he spews, but then again, I'm Catholic and I live in NYC. It's not like I have loads of conservative Born Again friends who would be attracted to his vitriol.

8. As seen in "Jesus Camp!"

(replying to Trotsky here...)

I recently saw that excellent and scary documentary Jesus Camp. When the kids went out to annoy perfect strangers with their religious insanity, they also passed out Chick tracts.

After finally seeing the flick, I went around the Internets looking at reviews, comments, etc.

One North Dakota blog mentioned that the loudmouthed lardass who was the subject, Becky Fischer, personally requested that the filmmakers NOT show the movie in her hometown of Bismarck.

One blog commenter asked: "And why is that? Is she afraid that mobs of atheists from Bismarck will storm the theater?"

The movie was certainly a trip. Fischer and her apparatchiks denied, over and over, that they were doing anything "political." But the movie clearly showed them leading bitter anti-government and anti-abortion rants. The guy who was the chief anti-abortion ranter had a very annoying habit of rocking back and forth, much like a 3-year-old throwing a tantrum in a Wal-Mart checkout aisle. I don't remember his name. I just thought of him as the shifty-eyed guy with the moustache and the penis-shaped head.
