This really riles me up:D.A.: Parents pray as girl, 11, dies of diabetes
WESTON, Wisconsin (AP) -- A couple who prayed as their 11-year-old daughter died of untreated diabetes will be charged with second-degree reckless homicide, a prosecutor said Monday.

D.A. Jill Falstad announces charges against parents who didn't seek medical attention for a diabetic child.

"It is very surprising, shocking that she wasn't allowed medical intervention," Marathon County District Attorney Jill Falstad said.

Madeline Neumann, daughter of Dale and Leilani Neumann, died March 23 at the family's rural Weston home. An autopsy
determined she died from undiagnosed diabetic ketoacidosis, an ailment that left her with too little insulin in her body.

The Neumanns each face up to 25 years in prison if convicted. Charges were being filed later Monday, Falstad said.

This particularly is aggravating--They said they have nothing agaisnt doctors but believed "god would heal her".
This kind of stupidity is part of the reason why I hate and distrust organized religion. Don't tell me this is an isolated case either..There is too much of this unthinking idiocy rampant in this country. Just see "Expelled" and all the other cretinists attacking logic and rationality. and the FLDS polygamists.. :puke:

1. When I was diagnosed the Mayor's wife wrote me a note
She said if I would renounce my sin, I could be cured of my diabetes.

I'm glad these weren't my parents. I'm sure she suffered. Do they think God will approve of that?

2. Maybe they didn't have health insurance?
Just a thought. Perhaps the story has more than one side to it.

3. I don't think thats the case.
The other members of the family were telling them to take her to the doctor and they flat out refused. You don't get charged with negligent homicide because you don't have insurance. No, these people are just idiots.

12. They had insurance
They have it through the coffee shop they own. They provide it to their employees, too. Heard it on CNN.

6. I hope they end up serving maximum time for this.
If for no reason than to keep them from reproducing again. There's just absolutely no excuse for this.

Was the kid, I should say.

So, what's the word on the 8 Blue Cross HMO cards the police found in their home last month?

8. It never even entered their ignorant heads that God just might have
sent the doctors! This is the height of all ignorance.

9. Maybe God will heal up the fucking knots on their heads...
That their fellow inmates will give them if they do a stretch in the joint. Nah, they'll most
likely get probation and promptly have another child. God would want them to.

Yes, you guessed it, this is another case of persecution of Christians:

What this really is, is an attempt by the government to make yet another attack on our religious belief in an effort to destroy our faith. If we have no faith, or worse, we are unable to exercise it, we may as well close the door of the church and hold a Bible-burning ceremony. This has to stop now!

But what of those Christians (a majority, I'd guess) who are critical of the parents' neglect? That's easy: they're not True Christians(TM):

Sadder still has been the response of many so-called Christians who make statements like, "They should go to jail"; or "They should have taken her to the doctor, praying on the way." I must ask, where is their faith? Comments have also been made that God created doctors and we should use them.

While it is true that God created the world and all that is in it, including doctors, we must note: Jesus never sent anyone to a doctor or a hospital. Jesus offered healing by one means only! Healing was by faith. Yes, God created doctors but only to give man a choice between man’s ways -- the doctor -- or His way -- faith! When we don’t have faith we need the doctor and it’s obvious that most want-to-be Christians need the doctors because they have no faith in God; their faith is in man. God created good and evil. Witchcraft can heal also. Should Christians also seek witches?

Paypal and all major credit cards accepted for their defence (evidently prayer isn't sufficient).

This cracks me up.

Apparently either faith in god or faith in witchcraft will get you well but no faith at all and you're hosed.

The crap that comes out of the mouths of some of these "people of faith" is absolutely amazing.

16. Exactly. Jesus never used a lawyer.
He also never used electricity, cars, or flush toilets. I hope that family doesn't blaspheme by using any of those things.

21. 1st degree
Freedom to practice your religion does NOT make it ok to carve up and eat your children. Nor does it make any other form of abuse or neglect ok.

Knowingly actively denying medially necessary treatment to a minor in your custody for any reason including religious grounds should be considered first degree murder.
Those who have been convicted of murdering a child should be automatically unfit parents for the rest of their life.
