Me and my cyberpistol
As if Crackergate wasn't already stupid enough,

Thomas E. Foley, a Virginia delegate to the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Minneapolis has asked that increased security be considered for the event in light of Myers' threat to acquire and desecrate the Eucharist.

***

Voicing his concerns about Myers, Foley said: "What I think he has done, he's loaded a cyberpistol and he's cocked it and he's left it on the table. He may have set something in motion that no one can stop. It was irresponsible, a hell of a thing to do."

Foley explained that he thought Myers should not be able to incite such acts with "impunity," saying that he was especially disturbed by the comments posted on Myers' blog. He said it was "eye-opening" to read the people who supported Myers' action. Even at his age of 63, Foley said, he had never "personally encountered such bigotry."

So, let me get this straight, a Republican delegate from Virginia claims this is the worst bigotry he's ever encountered?

Keep it up guys, this is exactly the kind of reaction PZ wanted.:applause:

1. I can't imagine where this is headed
It has all the elements of a good drama, but the competitive craziness of a true sport.

I think we have discovered the atheist/theist version of pro wrestling.

2. A few hundred years ago they would have just burned PZ at the stake and moved on.
Personally I would prefer that relatively quick death.

8. I was just imagining
A guy in a robe and a mitre swinging a folding chair at PZ.

But a the last second PZ holds up a cracker in the path of the chair and his nemesis must check his swing to preserve the cracker.

Then PZ reveals that it was really Matzo left over from Passover.

Equal parts of tragedy and comedy with just enough violence so the children will like it.

4. Lookit him
He's dying to call it a Hate Crime but he'll be demoted to RNC bottlewasher if commits such heresy. So it's cyberpistols and impunity and eye-opening bigotry and unstoppable motion and increased security and blah-de-blah. Idiot.

6. Ha! The H-word is verboten.
Still, it's only a matter of time before legislation is introduced to defend crackers from radicals like PZ.

11. I think I cracked the code.
He said he personally never encountered such bigotry.

So unless we rub his nose in it, it doesn't exist.

12. Either someone has his knickers in a knot, or . . .
his candidate isn't polling so well amongst Catholics, and he thinks this will help. If he is Catholic, he needs to just plain calm down, and if he's saying this crap for votes, he needs to get his head out of his ass.

Such a tempest in a teapot. There are many stories of the Host being taken and such before, and those often end with miracles or stories of how they got the Host back. The best thing the Catholics who are so offended can do right now is just calm down and pray their rosaries and know that everything will be fine.

13. The catholics who are getting themselves worked up over this
are not the type to sit quietly and pray for nearly an hour!

May I take this chance to say publicly that I appreciate all of your very thoughtful posts on this subject. Your point about the impossibility of desecrating the host is great food for thought. Too bad Bill D, et al, will never understand it, rule mongers that they are.

14. Then, what are their rosaries for?
Are they only able to pray in front of the little house for the Host (I forget the name of it)? I kid because I care (and because I think they need to get a grip).

I understand wanting to cling to the rules, but this one makes no sense. In the Orthodox church, we'd call it yia-yia religion--the folk story, pagan-influences that creep into the faith that aren't canonical.
