Reasons Christians shouldn't shop at Wal-Mart...?
I run an anti-Wal*Mart group, and someone suggested reaching out to the religious community. But none of us are all that religious, so we're having a bit of trouble getting started.

Could anyone help us with reasons why Christians in particular shouldn't shop at Wal-Mart? What, from a Christian perspective, would be a reason to boycott (or even better, help us fight against) Wal-Mart?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

1. LOL
Why do you hate America? :sarcasm:

Wal-Mart carries Christian stuff made in China and Left Behind series plus a film on DVD. Asking them to boycott Wal-Mart is like asking for tech support on Slashdot. Well, you could mention gays shop there, lol

2. Pretty simple for real Christians. WalMart creates poverty.
WalMart creates poverty wherever it goes. WalMart does not provide decent health care. Caring for the poor and the sick is a very strong Christian thing. It is also a very strong progressive thing, not just the purview of Christians, but I am just pointing out that many Christians believe in doing good works, so shopping at WalMart is giving money to people who hate the poor and the ill (which is obvious from their behavior).

Someone pointed out a site to me, which I only looked at briefly, but it might give you some ideas.

It was http://www.liberalslikechrist.org/index.htm.

3. That will be a hard sell because many poor and rural Christians...
...shop there because they have no other real choice.

So while we may still run into the poor Christians there aren't so many rural ones, and there are plenty of other shopping options. Wal-Mart isn't even all that cheap compared to a lot of other big-box stores, if people would take the time to compare prices.

6. You could remind them
that Jesus's stand was for social justice, and that He advocated helping the poor. Point out that Wal-Mart is the biggest importer of Chinese goods, and talk about the poor human rights record in China. You'd need to check this out more, but I know at one time that the Chinese government was cracking down on letting Christians worship in their country. When nothing else will work, maybe knowing this would get some people to stop shopping there.

5. Wal-Mart is evil
Low pay, no benefits, discrimination, profiting from foreign sweatshops, cheating their employees out of overtime and locking them up at night so they can't leave the store.

would think they're evil, too.

Kind of a Where Would Jesus Shop? campaign or something.
