If there was undeniable proof God had committed suicide . . .
What would you do?

What do you think the theists would do?

What do you think the three major organized religions would do?

What would Bush do?

What would Jesus do?

1. Since God is unchanging,
She could not commit suicide, as that would be a change.

On the other hand,

Since God is omnipotent -- she could.

I'm so confused. Theology always does that to me.

2. If there was "undeniable" proof...
even the atheists would have to be upset.

Maybe the most upset - because they would have been wrong all along...

...and that would have to mean that the universe had been held together and was now unhinged.

16. Nah. We're all about proof...
At least, many of us. Our non-belief isn't from disliking god, but due to the current absence of evidence that there is such a thing. Dig up some evidence that he is -- or was -- and we'll think differently. Easy.

17. I'm not assuming
that God exists (esp. in the manner that most people think of "God")...

But it seems to me there would be more of a disconnect to find out that God exists - if you think he didn't than if you found out he no longer exists when you think he did.

Actually - I think a lot of people who have "faith" would be pretty darn surprised, as well.

22. Hmm... Might believers have a bigger disconnect if god revealed himself?
I suspect you're right, that any kind of revelation of a complex reality substantially different from and behind our own would cause some disconnect. But try this on: it likely would cause a greater disconnect for believers, who have constructed a fantasy version of that, which likely would conflict quite a bit with the actuality. Atheists have the advantage that we don't have any pre-existing illusions about what the red pill reveals.

28. Exactly.
It's not a matter of pride for me, just a matter of lack of credible evidence of any gods.

If someone actually finds evidence, hey, I'm big enough to admit I was wrong. Until then, I don't have a reason to believe.

5. Yeah...
What would you do?
Replicate the event. If it is true, experiments will show it.

What do you think the theists would do?
Become Christians but with the power of thought.

What do you think the three major organized religions would do?
Start killing each other.

What would Bush do?
Establish camps to kill non-Christians.

What would Jesus do?
Laugh from his grave as he fulfilled his need to kill life itself.

JC wasn't part of the scenario.

10. JC?
Got mixed up. Local radio and TV shows Christian stuff too much. Even NPR is getting like that and so is PBS. I feel like I'm trapped in the Twilight Zone.

6. There IS undeniable proof. B* is in office.
The question is, did God commit suicide before or after B* got into office?

14. I'm sure that the only thing keeping some fundies
from murdering and pillaging and raping and stealing is the fear of going to hell.

Once that's gone, all bets are off.

That's why they can't possibly imagine someone who has a moral structure without the bible.

20. Bit of a paradox, if one is to believe in an omnipotent and omnipresent...
god.

Being omnipotent, it (god) would be able to commit suicide; however, that would be in direct conflict with the omnipresent nature of a OandO god.

Perhaps omnipotence overrules omnipresence; omnipotence giving it the choice to dissolve its omnipresence.

23. omnipotence is shown to override omnipresence
in Christian theology. God gives man free will, losing his knowledge of what man will do.

25. God has
God has also saved lives, died a violent "death" and a peaceful one. For God is Everything, the Only Being. Of course, what some see as death is really a drop of the veil of illusion.

26. That's one of the things God can't do.
We'd all have to kill ourselves and every other living thing to do that.
God is the energy force in all living things.
