Quakers take a stand against torture

... Some New England Quakers are hoping to hold a conference next year on the issue ... Nor are Quakers the only Bay State denomination concerned about the issue. For example, the policy of handing some detainees over to torture-practicing countries also drew protests from the Boston-based Unitarian Universalist Association. Following the Abu Ghraib prison scandal in Iraq, the UUA's Washington office wrote President Bush, saying the news had ''left many American citizens -- including countless Unitarian Universalists -- with a sense of disgust at what is being done in our name" ...
