What should I expect?

1. Really depends on the UU. Does the group have a website? Some very actively embrace
all religious views, incorporating them into services.

Others tend to be accepting of all views, but less actively incorporate them (perhaps this reflects the interests of group & it could change, if people of other views join).

Depends on size of group as well. I slipped into services at large UU congregations unnoticed, observed, & left, although they usually have welcoming committees. In a smaller group, that might be harder to do. What is good depends on to what degree you like to be anonymous.

Many groups have online sites, some have podcasts of services, or at least texts of the official statements (some might call them sermons) at services.

In many groups, you can also just get involved in committees or volunteer for activities, rather than go to services, if you prefer that. For many, the good of volunteering is far more important than attending services.

2. I think it may vary a bit from one spot to another
But in my experience, expect a churchlike format, singing, sermon, friendly and welcoming community, etc, but without the focus on a Christian god. While Jesus is certainly not an outcast in that setting, any of the religions can be tapped into for insights, such as Buddhism, Judaism, Paganism. Gays are welcome, as are a diversity of ideas about spirituality.

3. The standard format of a service.
But not necessarily Christian content.

No prayers, just meditations. Hymns that have been made gender-neutral and removal of references to God or Jesus.

Substance varies. Some congregations go for social activism, some for discussions, some for philosophy.
