Planned museum is media sensation

Theme-park-type attraction will back Bible story,
claim all creation was just six days in the making

by Cheryl Heckler
Ecumenical News International

CINCINNATI — A Christian group in Kentucky is creating a $25 million theme-park-type Creation Museum to promote the idea that God created the world just 6,000 years ago in six 24-hour days.

The museum is being built by Answers in Genesis, an organization that defends the literal interpretation of the Bible’s creation story. It offers displays and exhibits challenging the accepted scientific theory that Earth and life evolved over billions of years.

The 95,000-square-foot complex being constructed on 50 acres in Boone County, just south of Cincinnati, has attracted media coverage from around the globe, along with hefty financial support from Christian groups.

The complex will include a restaurant, a gift store and a special-effects theater. The first phase is scheduled to open by the end of this year, but the official opening is said to be about two years away.

School boards and courts in 20 states are wrestling with proposals to require schools to present alternatives to evolution theory.

Mary Looy, vice president of outreach for Answers In Genesis, told Ecumenical News International that the ministry is receiving more than $300,000 a month in donations.

The museum has been featured in newspapers from Japan to Canada, and has been featured on the British global broadcaster, the BBC.

“The worldwide exposure has been remarkable, considering we are two years away from opening,” Looy said. “We would have had to pay millions for the kind of exposure we’re getting.”

Answers in Genesis is an 11-year-old organization that sponsors a popular Web site answering questions about creation. It also broadcasts on 700 radio stations throughout the United States, and publishes Creation magazine.

According to displays in the museum:
The Grand Canyon was formed, not by erosion over millions of years, but by floodwaters in a matter of days; humankind and dinosaurs co-existed; prehistoric animals sailed on Noah’s ark; and Noah himself was a man, not a myth.

7. I asked...
that question. It's important, because I'm considering starting my own church. I can use 40% of all donations for "administartive fees" after I get my 501c3 tax exemption.

2. Brain-dead neanderthal morans....
There is plenty of evidence to support the theory of evolution, and these folks have made it obvious that some of us have evolved more than others.
