"Should Muslim children receive sex education?" |
|
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/education/schools/keep-the-faith-should-muslim-children-receive-sex-education-1756750.html<snip> Patel's organisation, SREIslamic, was established eight months ago to encourage Muslims to respond to the Government's consultation about whether to make SRE compulsory and extend it to five-year-olds.

parents always have the option to exclude their children and it is no big deal. I encourage kids to talk to their parents for additional info. Parents know that the question and answer section is kid generated and I answer them honestly. I have enough on my hand as it is. I pick my battles.

some pea brains would if they could. They go to private school or are home schooled. Frankly I am happy to show them the door rather than they teach creationism as a scientific fact......
Well evolution is just a theory they whine....Well so is gravity but you folks haven't come up with an alternative to that yet and we know the Sun doesn't revolve around the Earth. When you do that, I'll consider creationism.

Sex education seems to me to be integral to an understanding of health and anatomy. I know the usual argument against sex ed is that it might encourage students to "try it out"--which is nonsense. Young people's hormones and the culture around them is enough encouragement.
Rather, I think the way to look at it is "forewarned is forearmed". Advising them not of not just the mechanics of procreation, but also taking the time to discuss effective contraception, the nature and spread of venereal diseases, and debunking dangerous bosh such as those myths you linked to, should if anything make kids behave more responsibly, because they will know how to, and better understand the consequences.
