Pope Sez ''Guardian Angel Let Him Down'' In Broken Wrist Mishap
Pope: 'Guardian angel' did not stop accident

LES COMBES, Italy — Pope Benedict XVI said Wednesday that his “guardian angel” let him down when he fell and broke his wrist earlier this month, but that the angel was clearly acting “on superior orders.” The pope thanked law enforcement officials for being “like angels,” as he prepared to depart Les Combes, the Alpine resort where he tripped and injured his wrist 10 days ago while on vacation.

Unfortunately, my own guardian angel did not prevent my injury, certainly following superior orders,” Benedict said. "Perhaps the Lord wanted to teach me more patience and humility, give me more time for prayer and meditation,” the pope added.

Benedict leaves Les Combes, near the French border, later Wednesday to spend the rest of the summer in Castel Gandolfo, a papal retreat near Rome. The 82-year-old pope fell in his mountain chalet and fractured his right wrist. He had surgery at a local hospital on July 17 and spent the rest of his two-week vacation in a cast.

He kept up his limited public schedule and seemed to move with ease, though the injury made writing by hand difficult. The pontiff had hoped to make progress during the vacation on the second installment of his two-book project on Jesus of Nazareth. The pope, who likes to write by hand, used a tape recorder to collect his thoughts.

- Well I see that after 2,000 years of all that "love your brother & sister" crap, Yahweh's gone back to breaking bones again. Just like in the old daze.

Way to go, Yawdood! I say, stick with the old material. Works. Every. Time.

1. To be fair, that sounds more like levity than seriousness. (nt)

4. I have to agree. Who knows though, maybe his guardian angel was
an altar boy before he got his wings, and was paying Bennie back for not protecting his peeps....

6. I'm sorry....
...but even if I weren't 100% irreligious, I could never take anyone serious who wears a hat like that!

20. There's a fine line between "robes of office" and "costume!"
And that's not the worst of his chapeaux!

2. It's ALWAYS someone else's fault with right wingers, isn't it?
I'm pretty sure it's levity too, but it's still telling.

It'd be entertaining to hear somone on TV blame God when their team loses.Or when the tornado spares the neighbor's house but flattens theirs.

8. And then on the other hand....
"Generally, Catholics believe that guardian angels are given at conception...."

11. Or.
The angel could just be getting old. Especially if the angel has been around since the Pope's conception, as Catholic's purportedly believe they are assigned to one, at this time.

12. Somebody better talk to those angels -
given all the things really fucked up in this world, it would appear that they're not doing their jobs.

Counseling angels could be difficult, I think.

A man who purports to represent an omnipotent power who lives in the sky feels let down by his imaginary winged companion, but he thinks it means he should spend more time thinking and praying.

Not one bit of that makes any sense to me.

And if he weren't wearing that get-up and living in those palaces with those virgin guys in long dresses tending to his every need, he'd be an excellent candidate for involuntary commitment............................

15. And from what the Popey sez in the article.....
...it would appear that he thinks THE BIG GUY™ is out to get 'em.

- Which only raises the point: Of course! Why not?!?!?!

19. There's gonna be trouble -
those fucking angels. Didn't they learn anything from that Michael guy? The one in the John Travolta movie?

Man, they just don't get it, do they? The idea of divine omniscience and power just goes nowhere with those naked little fuckers. They think that because they're invisible and can fly around, they're all that and a bag of chips.

Dicks.

Angels are such dicks.

I hope God really lets them have it.

This makes me wonder, though - while all the angels are at the meeting, who's going to be watching over us?

We going bareback?

This isn't good...............................

13. It makes you wonder
If he thinks that a wounded wrist was the result of an absent angel
it makes you wonder who was absent when Jesus was nailed to a cross...

21. I was following a car with a bumper sticker that said
"Don't drive faster than your guardian angel can fly" and had their window been rolled down when I pulled beside them I would have asked them if they were pissed that their guardian angel could only fly 65 mph. If I had a guardian angel with all the purported powers they have, I would imagine they could haul ass.
