Catholic priest busted in sex sting in St. Louis County
A Catholic priest was nabbed Wednesday night in an FBI sting aimed at men who wanted to rent young girls for sex, federal court documents filed Thursday show.

James Patrick Grady, 57, Pastor of St. Raphael The Archangel, showed up at a St. Louis County home Wednesday, offering to pay money to have sex with a 16-year-old girl, documents allege.

Grady had been exchanging e-mails with an undercover police officer or FBI agent Wednesday, inquiring about an online ad offering young females, according to an affidavit filed in court by FBI Special Agent Cynthia Dockery.

Grady asked for details and was provided a digitally-altered picture of a 16-year-old girl and a price of $80 for 30 minutes and $160 for a full hour, Dockery wrote. Grady asked for a massage from the girl, and was refused. He then asked for kissing and oral sex, Dockery wrote.

Pope calls sex abuse scandal 'countersign' to Gospel of life
By Julie Asher
Catholic News Service

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- One of the "countersigns to the Gospel of life" in the United States is the sexual abuse of minors, a situation "that causes deep shame," Pope Benedict XVI told about 300 U.S. bishops gathered April 16 in the crypt church at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington ...

Cardinal George briefly traced the history of the church in the United States, including some times of trouble.

"In our own day, the consequences of the dreadful sin of sexual abuse of minors by some priests and of its sometimes being very badly handled by bishops make both the personal faith of some Catholics and the public life of the church herself more problematic," the cardinal said.

In his talk, the pope said priests themselves "have experienced shame" over abuse carried out by fellow clergy and others and they need the bishops' "guidance and closeness during this difficult time." He also said people must remember the "overwhelming majority" of priests and religious in the U.S. do "outstanding work" ...

4. He went after a girl? Now that is newsworthy!
However, the truth is that priests have always been notoriously hard on female parishoners.

My own sainted granny, a true believer, always warned all the kids and grandkids "He is a priest but never forget that he's a man, first!"

5. Hey, it's OK: he absolved himself.
Besides, at least he was willing to pay -- not rape an altar boy for free.

;-)

Besides, he'd taken vows of poverty, chastity, and statutory rape -- and was determined to keep at least one of them.

6. Priest's having sex with 16 year-old girls....
...as long as they're wearing bunny ears the whole time -- is okay. I'm pretty sure it's in the bible.

- Of course I could be wrong. Hmmmmm...... maybe I read it in one of those books they took out.....

10. Mo. archbishop apologizes after pastor's arrest
ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Archbishop Robert J. Carlson has apologized to about 350 parishioners at a church whose pastor has been arrested on sex charges.

Carlson told parishioners who gathered for Mass on Saturday at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church that he knew some of them were hurting and embarrassed. He told them he had come to apologize on behalf of the church and help them "begin the process of healing."

The media was not allowed to attend the Mass, but a copy of Carlson's remarks were provided to news outlets.

Carlson's appearance followed the arrest Wednesday of James Grady on sex charges. Court documents allege that the 57-year-old had been exchanging e-mails with an undercover investigator and had agreed to pay $80 for oral sex from a 16-year-old girl.

Grady was released Friday on a $10,000 bond.

Everythings all better now

13. Priest in teen sex case now charged with child porn too
T. LOUIS — A Roman Catholic priest already accused of trying to pay for sex with a 16-year-old girl was indicted Thursday on new charges, including one involving child pornography.

The Rev. James P. Grady, 58, already faced a felony charge of attempting to obtain a minor for a commercial sex act.

The superseding indictment adds a claim that Grady possessed three pornographic images of young girls on a laptop computer. Prosecutors also added a felony charge of using interstate commerce to attempt to entice or coerce someone under 18 to engage in prostitution or sexual activity.

The laptop was searched after he was arrested in the summer at a sting run by the FBI and police from St. Louis County and Maryland Heights.
