More have died from communism then Inquisition (the new spin)
Messori slams Italian communist daily for promoting “black legend” about Inquisition

Rome, Jun. 10, 2005 (CNA) - Italian journalist Vittorio Messori responded this week to an article in the Communist daily Il Manifesto that portrays as truthful the black legend about the Inquisition.

.....

According to Messori, the article “would not be worth reading were it not for the fact that it was published in Il Manifesto, one of the two or three newspapers in the entire Western world that still carries the title ‘Communist daily’on the front page.”

Messori noted that many other historical publications have been more precise in their accounts. “Just one year of the French Revolution, the reign of terror of 1793, left more victims that all of the centuries of all the inquisitions combined (the Protestants, in fact, did not fool around: the Geneva of Calvin was lit up by the bonfires, Lutheran Germany engaged in witch hunts as if they were a national sport; the last massacre encouraged by the Puritan pastors of Salem, Massachusetts, came at the threshold of 1800.)”

Messori noted as well that the number of victims of the communist regimes of the last century reached the hundreds of millions, all in the name of stamping out “deviations” from political “orthodoxy.” “It’s difficult, therefore, to take seriously the preaching that issues forth from certain pulpits,” Messori said.

The noted Italian journalist pointed out that an analysis of the modern historical data on the Inquisition, including information from the Vatican archives opened under Cardinal Ratzinger, would be of very much benefit to the Church. “Many pillars of the Black Legend would fall,” revealing a process characterized by an accurateness and a fairness “unheard of in the civil courts of that time.”

1. So, now the Inquistion AND the Holocaust did not really happen...

Probably the only reason that more people were not killed during the Inquisition is that there were not that many people on the planet back then.

5. And the machinery for mass execution was not as effective 500 yrs ago
Of course if you include all the women killed as witches during that period, you come up with an absolutely horrific number, that does approach the Holocaust or the Killing Fields.

3. People who score genocide
on the basis of the numbers killed miss the entire horror of what has happened.

9. What's more horrible
than the number of deaths? Any ideology, no matter how repulsive, is not criminal until it starts trying to kill people in order to impose it on the unwilling? Are you saying communism wasn't a horror on earth?

14. What's your complaint?
Where do you disagree. Are you saying Stalin wasn't as bad as Hitler, or at least almost? Mao? Pol Pot? Castro?

4. The Catholic Church has butchered more people than Hitler, Stalin, Genghis
Khan, and every other evil madman you can name. They have been a pestilence on the human race for over 2,000 years. They were responsible for the destruction of the Roman Empire, which fell after they seized control of the government, and they are responsible for the utter collapse and ruin of Western Civilization.

The Catholic Church plunged mankind into a thousand years of darkness. They burned libraries and destroyed untold numbers of books that exposed the fraudulent teachings of the Church as the plagiarized pagan practices that were appropriated by these superstitions delusional power crazed madmen known as the "Church Fathers" aka the founders of Christianity.

This bastion of horror, the Roman Catholic Church, not only destroyed civilization, but murdered thousands of people in the most brutal possible ways as part of their orthodoxy enforcement program. The torture performed by the Catholic Church over hundred of years makes Abu Ghraib seem like a day in the park.

After 20 centuries of this nightmare, you would think it couldn't get any worse. You'd be wrong. Enter the homosexual pedophile priests, sexually molesting and traumatizing untold numbers of children.

There has never been an evil tyrant or an oppressive government that has been a more horrific, destructive enemy of mankind than the Catholic Church.

BTW, I do not think Protestants are any better, they just have not (widely) enjoyed the kind of power that allowed the Catholics to oppress with violence. If they were to unite - as it appears that they are under the banner of the Rabid Religious Reich - may God save us from His followers.

The Roman Church also has 1500 years on the protestants
three times as many years to inflict harm.

7. I wish they would stop calling it communism
it the same crap the republicans do - call something one thing and then do the opposite. Anytime I hear someone call what happened in Russia or China communism I have to correct them.

The closest this world has ever come to real communism is in Israel, I can't spell the closest I can come is Kibbutz's

10. It was communism.
Ther is no getting around that. "Real" communism has been tried, and always found wanting.

13. "The dictatorship of the proletariat",
that is to say "communism". It never progressed past that stage, and never could. Thus invalidating the whole "scientific" pretensions of the hypotheses. Communism was tested, and found wanting, at the cost of millions of lives.

And yet there are still people unwilling to give up this horrible nightmare, thinking instead it is a dream. Absolutely amazing to me.
