A. Because too many of them are Pro-War, and thus really Anti-Life, and also thus don't have a leg to stand on in an honest discourse.

1. But their very twisted world view... |
|
allows them to justify the war, just like it allows them to justify bombings of abortion clinics.

3. were born deformed from lack of pre-natal care and starved after birth |

from lack of food due to Welfare Reform and the cancellation of the WIC "Women with Indigent Children" program.
They were however buried in a Christian graveyard, with funds provided by a 'faith based undertaker' service.
And their was less taxes all around, the markets were free, and everyone lived happily ever after!

5. Don't forget the part of that story that goes something like this . . . |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 11:32 AM by patrice
and all of the nice, white, Jesus evangelists get to build "community" by feeling ever so bad, and sad, and crying for all the pain and suffering casued by this "necessary" war. Lots of people get higher than a pothead on how "humane" they are as we talk about the Iraqis we "help", and cry our tears as "we" consume their flesh for Free Market Theology.
Indeed, those who are innocent and suffer from the hands of other so-called "conservative" "Christians" ARE Jesus. Sacrifice them!
We ARE War Slaves.

4. And because they don't have a clear definition of 'life.' |
|
A fertilized egg is 'life,' but a sperm is not. A frozen embryo is life but a convict on death row is not. In effect, 'life' is whatever they want it to mean, an objuscation of the fact that they have no consistent rationale for their positions.
How can something be a human life before it has a working brain?

6. All lines are more or less arbitrary. I'm not an absolutist myself, but |
|
I understand the logic of an honest absolutist pro-life positions: There are not lines and no exceptions for any life. Let us begin by being honest about that, and then clearly definine and labelling for discource the forms of exception that many many of us are making every day and the various purposes of those exceptions placed on the value of any Life. Let's begin there, then we can speak the truth about us. The questions are really about WHO makes the exceptions and how they make them (i.e. through fascism or through individuals accepting the responsibilities, moral and functional, for their own lives).

8. Science trumps religion every time in the long-run. RU-487 killed it. |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 09:51 PM by brainshrub
The moment RU-486 was approved, the pro-life movement lost the war in the United States.
The primary tool that the pro-lifers used was to shame women into avoiding abortion clinics. Now that the most abortions can be done in almost any doctors office, the effectiveness of picketing and inflicting fear is greatly reduced.
Even if abortion were made illegal, women would still be able to terminate pregnancies. If the govt isn't able to stop cocaine, they sure as heck won't be able to stop RU-487 from crossing the border.
ON EDIT: The moment Gutenberg invented the printing press, the ability of the plutocrats to control what people could learn was over... although it took them a few centuries to realize it.
RU-487 has created a similar situation in respect to control over womens bodies. It is no longer physically possible to make women stop having safe abortions. The battle is over, the pro-lifers just don't know it yet.

9. Well as long as you ignore the Seamless Garment movement. |

Quick who said this... There will be no peace on earth while the oppression of peoples, injustices and economic imbalances, which still exist, endure.
