Sainthood bid opens for John Paul

BBC

A bid to make John Paul II a saint begins in earnest on Tuesday when the Vatican starts sifting possible evidence of a miracle by the late Pope.

Members of a special commission - including a latter-day "Devil's Advocate" whose job is to challenge any claim - will swear secrecy and probity.

Hundreds of letters and e-mails in praise of John Paul's holiness have already arrived, the Vatican said.

His case is being fast-tracked after Pope Benedict made a special ruling.

1.  I will give JP2 credit for something
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 10:21 AM by DanCa
I dont like his stance on gays or reproductive freedoms but he was a physically disabled man who ran a church until his last days. How can the old guy do that with parkinsons is beyond me. I also liked the fact the he compared Bush to the anti christ and he was a lot better than pope rat. JP2 was a moderate compared to this guy. And this is coming from a person who detests pro life and all it stands for. See I dont hate the player just the game.

2. This is being rushed
It should happen, but the 5 year waiting period is there for a reason, to let cooler heads prevail in the light of history.

3. Do you feel the rush has anything to do with a cover-up of the facts of
contemporary history?

The Vatican has sought the intervention of the U.S. State Department to declare Pope Benedict XVI immune from a sexual abuse lawsuit filed here, according to court documents.

Vatican Reportedly Clears Priest
Vaca, a former priest, is one of at least eight men in Mexico and the United States who have accused the Rev. Marcial Maciel Degollado of molesting them when they were teenage seminary students in the 1940s, '50s and '60s.

Despite the horrific drumbeat of child molestation revelations, however, sensible Catholics hoping for a more transparent and less sexually repressed church shouldn't hold their breath. The new pope is not only a longtime leader of vicious church attacks on "evil" gays, he also has shamefully blamed the molestation scandal on the media.

4. The forthcoming Rome murder trial of 'God's Banker' Roberto Calvi
may be a wee incentive to etoilate as fast as possible.

Remember Bush1 gave Cardinal Marcinkus immunity from prosecution for the bankruptcy/collapse of Banco Ambrosiano AS WELL as Calvi's death because he said the cops had found no evidence that it was anything other than a suicide - by a depressed man who acted alone....

Marcinkus has since been living rent free in Arizona under Bush protection.

David Yallop's book In God's Name is an excellent source of material about the background, including the murder of John Paul 1 - JP2's predecessor who lived a mere 30 days before getting topped.

Piers Compton's The Broken Cross is also excellent for specific information about the pedophile masonic lodge the P2 which was seminal to the criminality of the Vatican during the cold war years. And which reinvented itself after the fall of the Soviet Union into a new reincarnation of the Opus Dei cult.

5. I was introduced to reality by KFJC's David Emory back in 1982
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 08:46 AM by dArKeR
David has been broadcasting the truth about P2, Karol Joseph Wojtyla, Banco Ambrosiano... since at least 1982. I wonder why Air America didn't pick up Dave instead of Ed Shitz?

8. Modestly interested in what they will..
come up with regarding any miracles this man performed.

His negative stand regarding abortion, birth control, gays and squelching of Liberation Theology and Child Molestation Cover-Ups didn't endear me to him, no matter how pious he supposedly was.
