Andy Schlafly, founder of Conservapedia.com, at in his home office in Far Hills, N.J. The conservative online encyclopedia is hosting a project of amateur conservative readers that are putting together their own interpretation of the Bible, to counter what they say is liberal bias by scholars.

CHARLESTON, West Virginia - The Gospel of Luke records that, as he was dying on the cross, Jesus showed his boundless mercy by praying for his killers this way: "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."

Not so fast, say contributors to the Conservative Bible Project.

The project, an online effort to create a Bible suitable for contemporary conservative sensibilities, claims Jesus' quote is a disputed addition abetted by liberal biblical scholars, even if it appears in some form in almost every translation of the Bible.

The project's authors argue that contemporary scholars have inserted liberal views and ahistorical passages into the Bible, turning Jesus into little more than a well-meaning social worker with a store of watered-down platitudes.

"Professors are the most liberal group of people in the world, and it's professors who are doing the popular modern translations of the Bible," said Andy Schlafly, founder of Conservapedia.com, the project's online home.

1. If
If Jesus returned he would probably deny he said any of that stuff. The writers of the scriptures probably distorted it in the first place!

12. No doubt.
Isn't the whole forgiveness thing basically central to the religion?

8. Founding father also felt the need to revise the Bible.
Thomas Jefferson also found the time to rewrite the Bible and it is available if you need it.

16. Minitrue: 2009.
Altering pre-existing documents to fit the new paradigm. Threading that camel through the needle's eye is gonna hurt...but that never stops the truly dedicated conservative.

17. To suss out the meaning you need to check the original language
which is Greek in the New Testament.

Concerning the phrase "fishers of men" in Matthew 4:19 check here: http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=G444&t=KJV

The word "anthrōpos" is translated in the King James Bible as "men" and it is a masculine noun, but look at the root word (etymology):
"From ἀνήρ (G435) and ops (the countenance, from ὀπτάνομαι (G3700)); man-faced, i.e. a human being".

Also look at the outline of Biblical Usage:
"1) a human being, whether male or female

a) generically, to include all human individuals"

So "fishers of people" would be an accurate translation of that passage. "Mankind" has also been used as a term for all people and not just men.

It's Schlafly's agenda that I don't buy. This is the same group of people who have tortured and misinterpreted scriptures to come up with the false doctrine of "the rapture".

20. They can't deal with the original language
Lots of funny stuff like their translating "denarius" as "penny" because they're both coins and the latter's more American. (Anyone with some Roman history can guess at how ridiculous that makes some sums of money out to be.)
