Pope knocked down at Christmas Eve Mass

VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict XVI's Christmas Eve Mass at St. Peter's Basilica got off to a tumultuous start Thursday after an apparently deranged woman jumped the barriers and knocked him down on his way to the altar.

The 82-year-old pope quickly got up and was unhurt, said a Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Ciro Benedettini. But 87-year-old French Cardinal Roger Etchegaray, a longtime Vatican diplomat who was also dragged down, fractured his hip in the fall and will be operated on, Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi said Friday.

15. delighting in violence, particularly against the elderly, seems to be

the very definition of hatefulness.

That said, I like many other left-leaning Christians (and there are MANY, let me tell you) are ashamed of the official stance on homosexuality, abortion etc, so we get it. We're working to change it. In the meantime, please don't celebrate violence against Catholics. It sets a precedent, and cheapens yourself.

For if this were not what God wanted, He, being both omnipotent and omniscient, would have stopped Susanna from hopping over the barrier.

Almost unmentioned is that 87 year-old Roger Etchegaray also was knocked over, and suffered a broken hip. Such an injury is often the beginning of the end for someone of this age.

But, that too, is all a part of God's Plan.

We need to reflect on this, and see what God's deeper meaning is, what lesson He wishes to teach ...
