a resolution condemning people for saying 'Happy Holidays' rather than 'Merry Christmas'
War Christmas!

Rep. Henry Brown of South Carolina and 74 Republican co-sponsors in the U.S. House of Representatives actually wants Congress to pass a resolution condemning people for saying "Happy Holidays" rather than "Merry Christmas."

1. He wants to condemn Jews for not acknowledging someone ELSE'S holiday?
"Happy Holidays" recognizes that there are MANY religions in the US, all equally valid, and many religious holidays this time of year. "Merry Christmas" recognizes only ONE of those holidays, though one could say it recognizes both a religious and secular celebration.

Christofascists have never made it so abundantly clear they want to ban all other religions.

2. Righties complain of "political correctness", but..
Yet run around saying that we should use words like "collateral damage", "freedom fries", and "Merry Christmas".

What if I WANT to say "Happy Holidays", huh?

K&R to expose the hypocrisy and the insanity.

21. What the hell do they propose to do?
Have people go around saying "I condemn thee" when caught saying "Happy Holidays"? Or taser them? How exactly do they propose to enact this idiotic resolution and don't they realize what a ridiculous waste of time and money it is?

Just when I think they can't possibly get any more stupid and hateful, they go and pull something like this.

12. Happy Holidays has been the greeting of choice for a long time.
In 1968 our son, then ten, advised his six-year-old sister to say Happy Holidays when she wasn't sure whether to wish someone Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah. Republicans should be so wise.

f'ing painful. Are these people secretly vying for stronger separation of church and state language and laws? I don't see how a resolution like this wouldn't demand just that - count me in on making that demand.

So much for that peace on earth bullshit. Damned fools. :eyes:

39. Oh, but they come from religious traditions
that are so open and accepting of everyone and everything...how can we possibly be so mean to them?

But I get even more annoyed at people who chide atheists for always seeming to be so angry. If atheism is so wonderful for you, they ask, why are you so angry all of the time? I ask them what they would say to a conservative who wondered for the same reason why liberals have been so angry for the past eight years...then tell them to multiply that by about 100 to get an idea of the atheist point of view.

But I also have this quite detailed (much better than I could do) diatribe to toss at them:
