Pat Robertson: Haitians Brought Earthquake on Themselves
Edited on Wed Jan-13-10 02:55 PM by pokerfan
Posted on: January 13, 2010 11:08 AM, by PZ Myers

Just about everyone is following the horrible news from Haiti, where they've been struck with a major earthquake causing great loss of life. I've been informed by multiple people now that Pat Robertson has announced the reason for this disaster: the Haitian people made a deal with the devil to free themselves from the French.

Let that sink in for a minute.

Rather than seeking to place the blame on divine retribution, I suggest that we secular people donate now to relief organizations. I'll recommend two: The Red Cross is an obvious choice; it's a secular organization that is dedicated to providing effective aid. I'll also recommend Partners in Health, which is on the ground right now and has been providing health care to the poor in Haiti for years.

I know this is redundant because many of you have already made donations somewhere…but just in case you haven't, get off your butt now and help.

You can watch a http://downloads.cbn.com/cbnnewsplayer/cbnplayer.swf?aid=13150">video of Pat Robertson blaming the earthquake on Haitians and their deal with the devil; it's about 6 minutes in, so you can skip most of the wretched CBN noise.

If it makes you angry, turn your outrage into something constructive and use it to motivate you to donate to Haitian relief first. Deal with the evil scumbag Robertson later.

3. Well there's a shock......
Whenever there's a natural disaster, Pat always has to tell us why God was so pissed off at that particular place :eyes:

4. if there is a hell, God will send this guy to a special place there
One of the things I remeber from going to catholic school is that wishing god take sides in singling out your own foes is blasphemy. To assume god takes your position to blame the helpless for their misfortunate in disgusting.

8. Someone asked what he'd say last night
how he'd blame this disaster on such a heavily Christian nation.

I said old Pat was probably tucked into bed when it happened, but he'd blame them for bringing it upon themselves as soon as he found a microphone.

Nice to know the old bastard is consistent.

13. Once I thought about it....
there was no question in my mind that Robertson would blame the Haitians themselves. They are 80% Catholic (according to Wikipedia -- add usual grains of salt), and I suspect ol' Pat doesn't count followers of the Scarlet Woman of Rome as real Christians.

10. Sad but predictable
Another posting on DU that I saw a few hours ago was speculating on how long it would take for someone to blame the Haitian earthquake on their use of voodoun. Predictably it didn't take long and it was Robertson that said it. Pat - here's a clue: earthquakes are caused by sudden geotectonic plate movement, usually at plate boundaries, not because some old maan in the sky with a long beard is upset by a country's spiritual activities.

19. Note that the evil action was self-governance.
The evil being decried here is a nation of black people demanding that they be free from the oppression of white colonizers. Evidently, it is the will of God that whites rule the first black republic. It should also be noted that Haiti has been the designated whipping-boy of the United States for over a hundred years.

20. He claimed that the Dom. Rep. was spared because of their
good behavior.

1946 -

The 1946 Dominican Republic earthquake refers to the earthquake of magnitude 8.0 that hit Samana, Dominican Republic on August 4, 1946 at 17:51 UTC. An aftershock occurred four days later on August 8 at 13.28 UTC with a magnitude of 7.6. and on Sept.22, 2003 a magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit the Dom Rep.

They must have been very bad in those days.
