8. His canonization was rail-roaded by John Paul II

John Paul II was almost certainly a secret member of the misogynistic Opus Dei cult that has taken over the Catholic Church. It has been revealed that he like some members of Opus Dei engaged in self flagellation. One of his aides revealed with great admiration that he never relented and did it when on vacation. These people are seriously deranged. John Paul II was a sick abuse enabler and continued to protect Marcial Maciel who was finally removed as head of the Legions of Christ by Ratzinger when he became pope. It will prove interesting when some of the conservative nitwits in Opus Dei push to get John Paul II canonized. But, I suppose like in the case of the Opus Dei founder, those who came forth to testify against his cause will not be allowed to testify. The fact of the matter is that the vast majority of Catholics are very uninformed about their own church leadership. They go to mass on Sunday and that is the extent of their involvement.

George Orwell. I'm not sure I totally agree with that, but the values used by the RCC in determining who deserves sainthood are not necessarily the same values we all prize as a secular society. We shouldn't be surprised when things like politics become the real concern in such matters.
