The witches I have known
It's really weird to hear about the whole witchcraft/O'Donnell thing, because I've know a few Wiccans/witches/pagans (they have all used the different names) over the past two decades, and they have all been to a person extremely kind and interesting. For the most part, they have a sort of postmodern approach to their religion, namely that they don't believe in the literal ability to control reality through spells, but to get themselves in tune with their energy and thoughts. (If you don't believe it, fine. But these people are sincere and quite intelligent.) I actually, sigh, "dabbled" in it, but I found it too difficult. I found a mix of liberal Christianity and Buddhism fits me better.

Anyway, yes, it makes O'Donnell look rather silly. But don't let it tarnish the real witches.

1. O'Donnel mentioned "satanic" worship specifically, and that is not witchcraft.
Satan is a christian diety. I think she used the satanic/witchcraft story to make her "conversion" to christ-worship sound all the more divine - she was "saved" from satans grasp....

2. She also said "dabbled in witchcraft"
my point was that witchcraft is misunderstood already, and this is unfortunate.

3. too true. And somehow I do not think the teaparty is truly interested in religious freedom
I think they want to declare america a christian nation, and think how horrified the non-evangelical tp-patriots will be when they learn that only evangelical christians are considered "christian"...

Wiccans probably rank below even <gasp> Muslims and athiests in their eyes.
