New rules: things you are not allowed not to say anymore
From Pharyngula...

a group of atheists attended a city council meeting to protest (politely, of course) prayer before meetings and ten commandments signs, and they were http://friendlyatheist.com/2010/12/17/florida-atheists-told-to-change-shirts-or-leave-city-council-meeting">threatened with expulsion for the terrifying t-shirts they were wearing. They bore a slogan that other attendees complained about as "offensive". That slogan was simply One nation, indivisible.

Did you catch that horror? They left out the words "under god" that are supposed to be there, dividing "nation" from "indivisible"! I don't know how Cape Coral City will cope with all these people going around not saying things.

Here's another example of this amazing touchiness. Elizabeth Edwards recently died of cancer, and she left a final statement for her family and friends. It's a nice, brief farewell, and in it she says, "You all know that I have been sustained throughout my life by three saving graces—my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope."

Did you catch that one, too? I know, you can hardly believe it, and you're probably shocked to your core by her dreadful omission: she didn't mention her faith in Jesus! Holy crap, you mean women are going around dying of cancer without words of praise for their lord and savior on their mind?

Wait, you're thinking, no one could possibly be so insensitive and arrogant that they think they should dictate what a dying person's final thoughts should be — other than us atheists, that is, who are expected to barge into the deathbed scenes and slap the weak-willed fading sap until they renounce their false beliefs in gods.

Oh, hang on…we don't do that, either.

OK then, no one could be that arrogant…except a Christian. Get a napkin ready, just in case you feel an urge to throw up a little when you read how http://americanpowerblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/elizabeth-edwards-parting-statement.html">one Christian reacted to Edwards' farewell.

12. Sadly for some poor students, he's also an Associate Professor of Political Science
at Long Beach City College.

http://histpolsci.lbcc.edu/deptpages/douglas.cfm

He doesn't need religion to be an asshole; he'll be it about any political topic too. Someone sane pointed out he had bad comprehension skills, and so said "he’s proven it’s possible to be gainfully employed in academia and functionally illiterate"; in return, Douglas let loose with a volley of unoriginal swearing, completely failed to either see how he was wrong, or refute any points against him, and declared victory.

5. Wow, PZ's not kidding, this is really despicable:

Clearly Elizabeth Edwards wants to put her faith in something, be it hope or strength or anything. But not God. I wonder if it's just bitterness, that's she's been forsaken by more than just her estranged husband --- that's she's been forsaken by Him. And imagine if she'd have become First Lady. Americans generally expect outward expressions of faith in our presidents, Christian faith especially, and thus in our First Ladies as well. The Democratic base obviously doesn't care, as we can see in the "wow factor" expressed by the author at the American Prospect. Being anti-religion is cool, so Edwards' non-theological theology gets props from the neo-communists. Still, at her death bed and giving what most folks are calling a final goodbye, Elizabeth Edwards couldn't find it somewhere down deep to ask for His blessings as she prepares for the hereafter? I guess that nihilism I've been discussing reaches up higher into the hard-left precincts than I thought.

10. Nice to see some christians calling him out on his blog.
But I know many more that are just like him (you want ugh? Our local cbs channel broadcasts Cornerstone Ministries' hate speech sermons every Sunday). No doubt that's why this nasty pos feels so comfortable posting such hateful screeds.

11. Not familiar with Cornerstone
I checked out what I am assuming is their homepage. They sound like conservative literalists to me. Not my cup of tea. What kind of stuff do they put on TV? Then again you probably dont watch it. Its probably akin to a guy like me being forced to watch BillO or Glenn Beck for an hour (double :puke:)

13. I should have specified that it's "Maury Davis Ministries" I have a problem with, not Cornerstone.

The guy is a dangerously delusional whackjob and people can't get enough of him.

Here's a sample:

I, as a Christian, am tired of the modern day promotion to tolerate the unhealthy and the perverted and the sick…and the promotion to be intolerant of religious symbols such as a public cross or a public display of the Ten Commandments. I am tired of the ACLU and other twisted thinkers confusing a display on the wall of the school with the promotion of religion or establishment of religion by the national government. I am tired of the same sick-minded unreasonable folks demanding we not face the enemy with truth. The truth is that dictatorships, communists’ regimes, and terrorist groups must be defeated at any cost. As we obviously race to the end of time because of the Islamic community and the heathen of the world, wouldn’t it seem reasonable to stop dismissing the Bible and read the prophecies written thousands of years ago that read this week like tomorrow's front page?

Regarding a proposed amendment to ban same sex marriage in Tennessee :
I am well aware of diversity training and politically correct designs by those intended to dumb us down and stifle legitimate debate, but this goes to the ludicrous. To use phrasing like this is MORALLY wrong! Who do they think they are? The Bible, the book on which this nation was built, says it is wrong and sinful and condemned. Our founding fathers never considered constitutional rights to include socially destructive and morally deviant behavior. Rest assured, homosexuality was considered a perversion by our founding fathers and by most generations of Americans until recent media pollution clouded the issue.

One person recently told me that a person cannot legislate morality. I totally disagree! Our founding fathers expected not only to create a Democratic society, but a society with morals based in the Christian religion. Recently, I heard Rosie O’Donnel confront Bill O'Reilly with the will of the founding fathers. This is the same liberal who compared fundamental Christians with radical Islamists. I wonder why Amercians do not rise up and tell Rosie that her life is out of the will of the founding fathers. The disregard for their faith is an abomination

***

The resolution made me sick, and it is offensive to Christians. I have written this blog to make sure people know we need to vote for morality and religion, and to vote the pro-abortionists and anti-family crowd out!

How does this pos millionaire get to keep his tax exempt status?

I, personally, had a problem on Monday, May 1, when my cleaners could not deliver my cleaning because their Hispanic employees refused to work that day. I am convinced that most Americans, while very sympathetic to others, felt like that day was an in-your-face day for illegal immigrants. I think we need to remember what America was intended to be…a melting pot into one Bible-based culture. We were never intended to have cultural diversity as our primary identification. We were intended by the founding fathers who birthed this Republic to buy into the American way of life. Our language is English, our prosperity is legendary, our work ethic is scripturally based and our nation is the greatest in earth’s history.

Let me share the hard truth…our culture based on Judeo-Christian foundations has surpassed the world. Does it not make sense to understand others want a piece of the American Dream? Yet, we must demand if they want the American Dream, they must become Americans. The culture of Mexico is corrupt and will not help this country. Lay your flags down and pick up Old Glory. Lay your language down and embrace ours. Stop trying to be Mexicans in America…become part of the dream, not sponges off of it. I feel the same way about any hyphenated additions...African-American…Arabic-American…Chinese-American…stop it! Either join up or you will always stand on the edge of what could have been. If you want to maintain the dream, stop fracturing the society this culture has created. Stop attacking the God who gave the dream! You are welcome here…not to change us, but to join us!

And yes, I try to catch his sermons because I know that I will eventually have to refute his hate speech.

Bf worries about his tv, won't leave me alone with it during the broadcast.

15. It's a clinical interest, too. I keep trying to understand people who think like that.
Was raised in New England and never had any religious beliefs, I don't think I'll ever get it.

My stomach and patience are far from strong, btw, lol! You know me better than that, ABG! :)

It kills me to listen to this kind of crap but burying our heads in the sand isn't going to help keep wackos like this from gaining too much political power. I and many others live for the day the IRS strips him of his non-profit status. He even preached a sermon about that, how our priorities are all screwed up, what are we thinking going after a poor pious preacher like him...blah blah blah.

Mr. Rogers there also murdered a woman, went berserk and almost decapitated her.

But he's all better now that he found gawd in prison.

Really.

Trust him.
