2. "Nails it"?
Is that a crucifixion reference? :)

As for the song... more than a touch cloying and sentimental, perhaps even possibly for others who believe the dripping sentiment of the lyrics.

Never been a big fan of country/gospel music.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

7. Give this a listen...
From your friendly neighborhood atheist...

:hi:

Beautifully done by a bunch of Cajun women, and I don't have to hear the atheist-teeth-gnashing lyrics in English...

"How Great Thou Art" also makes me gnash my teeth. It reminds of the Billy Graham Crusades I was forced to watch as a kid. That was always the big closing number by George Beverly Shea, when the suckers went down for the altar call.

9. The responses to the negative comments in that Yahoo article were more entertaining
Actually, they were pretty creepy.

For example, a woman wrote:

"So God can apparently help a woman sing beautifully to help spread his message but He couldn't protect the thousands of innocent people killed in Japan? He doesn't sound so great to me...."

And the responses:

"I hope you find HIM before you take your last breath on this earth. I pray that you do.."

"Just jealous God didn't help your FACE!"

"God sent His son to SAVE us from the tragedies of this world. That is the whole point. Only peace can be found in Christ. Our reward isn't on this earth, it's way beyond anything we will find here. I hope you find it."

"Dear Jess, please remember we live on earth, not in Heaven. Terrible things, both man made and natural will continue to happen. Perhaps many ,if not all of those thousands of people are rejoicing in Heaven with him right now."

"What happened in Japan may seem like a tragedy but in the big picture those people who died are all in a better place, and if it was their time to go, who are we to say other wise?"
