Where Michele Bachmann got her theology
Edited on Mon Apr-25-11 10:01 PM by onager
And how do I know this? Because I was spying on local Fundie radio today, and heard the minister salesman from Summit Ministries BRAGGING that Michele was one of their best students.

Here's their handy "Worldview Chart," which was promoted heavily on the show to help you figure out your own worldview:

Otherwise, the clown from Summit Ministries was just like every other Xian I hear on this station - a bloviating motor-mouth, who sounded a lot like a desperate used-car seller...a seller hoping I won't notice the Bondo patches and puddle of transmission fluid.

1. Michele Bachmann as a used car: Visually attractive but, mechanically, a complete disaster.
Your car salesman analogy seems to be spot-on.

3. ATTRACTIVE?!?!?
At risk, I quote Robin Williams, speaking as the zoo panda:

"I would not fuck that ugly panda bitch with the koala's dick!"

2. Summit Ministries would be very unhappy with my views
I became a Trinitarian when I decided Trinitarianism summarizes something at the core of Christianity -- but I'm not at all convinced that Trinitarianism is "Biblical." I'll support evolution over creationism for biological theory any day of the week. I've always considered myself a secular humanist, insofar as my political ideals are secular and humanistic. I regard moral absolutism as simplistic and even senseless: practical moral thinking always involves context. I came back to Christianity in the heyday of Liberation Theology, back when Castro exclaimed in surprise All the Christians are becoming Marxists and all the Marxists are becoming Christians! -- and texts like Miranda's Marx and the Bible played an important role in bringing me back. I'll agree that "justice" and "freedom" are important, but I think that seeking "justice" can require one to hold naturalist philosophical views and that "dialectical materialism" can provide critical insights into political issues related to the problems of "justice"

4. They claim her

Meanwhile her training/indoctrination runs much, much deeper than Summit Ministries. Michelle's background runs deep in Pentecostal/Charismatic/Dominionist/Word of Faith Christianity. And she has ties to many of the influential institutions and players in that circle.
