Rapture battle on billboards hit Bay Area
Rapture battle on billboards hit Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO -- A philosophical debate as to mankind's continuing existence versus impending doom has reached new heights: a 68-foot billboard on top of a San Francisco T.J.Maxx.

The sign, alongside eastbound Interstate 80 on the approach to the Bay Bridge, went up Wednesday. It reads: "The Rapture -- You KNOW it's Nonsense. 2,000 Years of 'Any Day Now.' "

--snip--

"We just want people to know that life is about living rather than focusing on how glorious things can be after we die," Hicok said by phone Friday from the American Atheists National Convention in Des Moines, Iowa. He said the anti-rapture signs are also up in Houston and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

2. The rapturists are even funnier
If they're so sure that the world is about to end, then they shouldn't mind signing over the deeds to their houses to me.

3. Old News
In the year 999, people packed cathedrals and churches, convinced that the world was going to end. This was before Rapture Theology was in swing. And also before they figured out they got the years wrong.

Just a tidbit I thought I'd share.

4. Well, its not really "old news". This is a current event we are talking about.
But I understand what you are saying.

5.  I guess folk can shell out their shekels to battle the "May 21sters" if they want, but
spending time and treasure to fight "May 21st-ism" seems to me just as silly and pointless as spending time and treasure to promote "May 21st-ism"

It also seems pointless to me to have multiple posts about this "story":

6. Seems to me that the smart thing to do if you really wanted to spend money on this ...
... would be to book a nice big billboard for several weeks
starting on May 22nd with the message "Told you so!" ...
