Someone left evangelizing leaflets at the ATM. Speaking badly of atheists. I say -- GOOD. |
|
Good? Why, you ask?
Things like that are an implicit assumption that WE have exactly the same right to speak publicly what WE think of THEM and their beliefs.
Fly those banners. Buy those billboards. And bus ads.

1. Every now and then someone leaves them in the front area of my condo ... |
|
and I tell people to leave them there so we are "marked", and they won't leave anymore.

I mean, the Almighty Dollar and all that. ;-)

6. No, seriously, wait till I get to the gist of the leaflet. |
|
It was something like that: "Your (money) numbers don't fit? Without faith in God, they will never fit." I don't know what would be the best concise English phrase for "you're never able to fit your expenses into your earnings."
Then there was something about how an atheist can never become a better person. There was more. I'm paraphrasing because I quickly ripped it in pieces and threw it in the trash bin.

5. Ah, the passive-aggressive police are out and about again |
|
Why not just come right and say that you feel threatened by atheists instead of griping about how vocal we are?

7. Complaining about what? |
|
About Christianity? Not much of that here.
Calling out the Talibornagain? Pointing out hypocrisy? Lots of that going on.
As it should be.

8. Jesus did a lot of complaining about hypocritical pious douchebags |
|
And, you know, the atheists do a better job of emulating Christ's example than 99% of Christians.

18. I'm simply making an observation |
|
A lot of Christ's statements were directed at religious hypocrites.
I really don't think that makes him an "anti-Jewish bigot", but he didn't feel it necessary to be polite about it.
The attitude of "well, we'll just be better Christians and ignore those nutjobs" or the notion that by demonstrating better behavior the point is proven, is inconsistent with Christ's vocal and outspoken criticism of the most visible religious leadership in Israel.
He knew a "den of vipers" when he saw one, and said so.

19. I'm trying, there's a reason I'm not right wing. I'm also not to give false witness. |
|
You can probably see how this has caused me no end of trouble with right wingers, both family and friends, as well as others. All I ask is people don't assume that all Christians are anything, we're still individuals and some do better or worse at following Christ's teachings. Consider the individual first. If I'm breaking Christ's instruction, I would like to know, though give me time to be sure I am before I say so. If someone accuses me of false witness or worse, just be sure you can do so in a way your message gets through so I can receive the lesson. Insulting my faith doesn't work very well in that case, I usually get into answering the charge first. Just sayin....

If I say ANYTHING negative about Xtians, I am IMMEDIATELY labelled as a bigot, basher, militant fundamentalist atheist. I'm sorry, I missed the concept of free speech. Because you know, atheists wanting to have an opinion and freely speak is such a horrible horrible thing, isn't it. Man, if anyone says anything negative about religion or want to speak up for themselves some here act like we are releasing the lions on them. OY!

13. For centuries, Christians let Jews do all the lending because |

Christians didn't like the idea of interest.
I notice we are rapidly returning to a world without any interest. (CD came due today.)
Hopeful sign for these pamphleteers.

|
They were moneylenders and pawnbrokers.
Then they went into Wall Street.
Talk about unintended consequences.........
