Christian Exodus seeks followers
http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/news/local/12863119.htm

Christian Exodus, a Texas-based group, has a goal of moving up to 12,000 conservative Christians to South Carolina to establish a government formed strictly on the Constitution and biblical principles.

So far, only five families have made the move, all to the Upstate. But organizers hope to increase that number significantly after holding a three-day planning meeting beginning Friday in Greenville.

The meeting will be the first extended chance for the public to listen to Christian Exodus members discuss their political philosophies and outline their plan for moving people to the state.

2. What about Comet Hale-Bopp? Is it due to come around?
Maybe that was a different comet, but there must be something approaching on which they could hitch a ride.

5. How do they plan to do both?
The Constitution prohibits them from basing it on biblical princples. So how do they hope to do both?

9. Hmmm. Bob Jones University
I grew up about 40 miles from Greenville, SC. It's the home base of the infamous Bob Jones University. I suspect that's why Xian Exodus is having a rally there. They believe they will find a bunch of people who agree with them.

Probably not. Even my most devout relatives thought Bob Jones was a joke. They used to call it "Jesus Tech."

11. As long as they don't expect government money
If they want to do this, fine, they are free to be religious nuts. But they should not benefit from ANY government money, from any level: federal, state, or county.

They should build their own roads and water and sewage system. They should pay taxes, federal and state, but should not expect services in return.

13. So, these clowns have been around for years amd...
only have 900 people signed up, 5 of whom are actually doing the move? No news there.

Love the comment about firing on Ft. Sumter. Ain't gonna happen, but the mind boggles at the the thought of S. Carolina leading the wave of secession.

The Republic of Texas follows, but Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama want to wait till they get all the FEMA money before splitting off. And Florida is stopped by 12,000 retired Jewish doctors and accountants who have enough problems without a Christian state. Utah considers the possibilities.

14. That's it?
I have heard about this a few times before this. It sounds like an abject failure to me. A few nuts in the woods of South Carolina will not change much.

15. According to the article that's it...
and this group pops up here on DU and other places from time to time, but they never seem to get any traction no matter how much PR they try to get.

It seems like, even for most fundies, a pretty stupid idea. Thanksgiving is around the corner, and maybe they're thinking of the pilgrims escaping for religious freedom. Or Mormons heading to Utah.

What they apparently forgot is that Pilgrims, Mormons, Puritans, and other groups that moved around here were chased out of their homes by religious intolerance.

16. It almost makes you want to give the people
what they want.

Give them some land, dig a moat around it, call it Fundie-land and don't allow anyone off the island without a valid passport.
