OH RC leaders to Spkr: listen to Church not Tea Party
Ohio Catholic Leaders to Speaker Boehner: Listen to Catholic Church, not Tea Party

You can heed the consistent moral calls from Catholic leaders who have urged lawmakers to decrease our debt fairly and protect the most vulnerable, or you can yield to growing political pressure from Tea Party Republicans willing to accept catastrophic default for the first time in our nation’s history...

Now is the time to seek a compromise that reflects the Catholic values of solidarity with the most vulnerable
and prudential judgment.

Independent experts have warned that our nation’s credit rating will be downgraded. Social Security benefits, active-duty military pay, and Medicare and Medicaid payments would be jeopardized. Nutrition assistance for low-income and pregnant women is also at risk. We must do everything possible to avoid these profound moral and political failures.

Speaker Boehner, we urge you to honor the values of the Catholic Church you love and show the courage to do what is right as you face extraordinary political pressure.

This letter is signed by 60+ Ohio Clergy and Catholic leaders.

2. Before the comments start about pedophilia...
Yes, I'm Catholic and I hate that aspect and am ashamed of it but you will not find another church whose dogma for centuries has consistently backed the worker, economic justice and help for the downtrodden...the least among us.

When these asshole politicians blather on and on about God and church and religion and Jesus, I cringe. They are such hypocrites. All they care about is themselves and their fragile little egos.

5. I'm not a Catholic and not religious at all, but I have noticed here the
Catholic Charities are very active and seem to do good work. I donate a lot of stuff to them.

6. I think the indiginous populations of Mexico and California might disagree.
At least based on the history I have read.

7. Agreed
I'm Methodist, but I've always noticed that wherever you find people in pain and in need, you will also find the Catholic church ministering to those needs.

3. I would have used Terrorist rather Tea Party ...
such that it read:

"You can heed the consistent moral calls from Catholic leaders who have urged lawmakers to decrease our debt fairly and protect the most vulnerable, or you can yield to growing political pressure from "Terrorist" Republicans willing to accept catastrophic default for the first time in our nation’s history..."

4. Throw the damn bible at em.

Isaiah 10:1-4
New International Version (NIV)
Isaiah 10

1 Woe to those who make unjust laws,
to those who issue oppressive decrees,
2 to deprive the poor of their rights
and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people,
making widows their prey
and robbing the fatherless.
3 What will you do on the day of reckoning,
when disaster comes from afar?
To whom will you run for help?
Where will you leave your riches?
4 Nothing will remain but to cringe among the captives
or fall among the slain.
