Creativity & Consciousness - Research Channel lecture
Here is a link to streaming video on the Research Channel featuring David Lynch, a leading quantum scientist and a neuro-scientist. This post might seem to be a candidate for the Entertainment board but it sits just as well on this forum because of the subject matter covered by Lynch et al

The URL won’t hook up just now for some reason nor does the top-level domain (http://www.researchchannel.org/) work so it doesn’t seem to be just a broken link. I can get into the University of Washington web site that has a link to the Research Channel but that doesn’t work either...sigh

Sorry about this people – keep trying because it’s worth it.

I have long been a fan of David Lynch's work. His cinematography resonates with me in ways that made a little more sense after I heard him speaking; it was an absolute joy lying back on the sofa with a glass of wine listening to him explaining how he draws deeply from his inner consciousness for inspiration. One short lecture (it's around 90 minutes) does not give anyone great insight into something as deep, and complex, as the imagery portrayed in Lynch's work. Nevertheless, the lecture gave me a little more understanding of how he works. It seems the resonance we get from his films, without fully understanding why we "like" what we see, emanates from something common to us all - an inner consciousness that we can tap into. In case you don't know this Lynch has practised Transcendental Meditation for 32 years.

The scientists enrich the lecture by creating a bridge between the woollier stuff that might put some people off, particularly those of a more logical persuasion, and the science that underpins consciousness. BTW, the quantum scientist who speaks at the lecture is the chairperson of the "David Lynch Foundation for World Peace" (not absolutely sure about the title of the organisation).

I have always believed that there is something profoundly important about what lies within us all and it does not require God to be introduced through the back to door to accept that premise. This lecture is one of the best explanations of our inner selves I have ever seen and it meshes quite well with posts others have made about their belief in spirituality, despite their reluctance to accept the existence of an externalised deity. I recommend it to anyone who wants to find out more about something most of us hunger after - first class stuff imho.

As an aside, Lynch makes one absolutely beautifully, wry comment – "the absurdity of killing people in the name of peace"
