Who would Jesus torture?
Linking torture with Jesus' message is a tragedy

Battle Creek Enquirer/Rev. Joy Rogers | January 26 2006

"Who would Jesus torture?"

That's the provocative lead sentence in an essay by David Batstone in Jim Wallis' Sojourners magazine.

The question has haunted me throughout the Congressional debate on the matter. The question unsettles me when I hear that three out of four people who responded to a survey in this newspaper say that torture is an acceptable practice in certain situations.

And I realize that there is more at stake than my religious convictions in this controversy.

There is my understanding of myself as an American and a fervent belief that even in the ugliest of wars, and notwithstanding the bad behaviors of a few, we are a people who claim to be humane and ethical in our treatment of prisoners and civilians in a war zone.

1. I think the first covered to say this
was Glenn Close.

Here's my spin on it. . .

PM me if you want the full initial text. . .

"Oh and Duhhh. . . .another minor thing . . .does anyone really think the God and the father of the "Prince of Peace" would ever have inspired or condoned a war on innocents or tortured them. Like. . .as if. . .?

"Who would Jesus bomb (or torture) ?" Indeed. NOT ONE sentient being EVER is the only possibly answer to that ridiculously rhetorical question. Nor would any of his true followers, any more than would the true followers of Islam do so. Buddhists and most souls couldn't even conceive of it.

Such shadowy projections are so-o-o terribly antiquated. White phosphorous is not but truly should be. Kind souls sleeping in their homes need never be "burnt to the bone." http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com. (See post from Thursday, November 17 for reference)

Or, as one verrry succinct protester's sign read during a relatively recent capital city peace march , . . . ."I can't believe we still have to protest this crap." Me neither. Well maybe try 8 tricks and soon more instead. There will be far fewer security concerns and greater peace if true souls do these simple techniques I swear."

best,
stella

4. If you believe the Bible, Jesus and His Dad have tortured or ordered the
torture of an awful lot of people and plan to torture a lot more people for eternity.

5. everybody who does not believe in him
The Bible says it over and over again.

"weeping and gnashing of teeth"
"eternal damnation"
"bound hand and foot and cast into outer darkness"
"where the fire is not quenched"
"the smoke of their torment asendeth up forever and ever".
