1. Uh, there's no shortage of that...
How many fundie preachers talk from their pulpit about politics? How many times did the catholic church politicize it's anti abortion stance in 2004?

6. how about terri schiavo...
During the Terri Schiavo fiasco, we went to church on Easter at a new church and the pastor actually said, after a fire and brimstone service, people who believe her feeding tube should be removed are in league with satan. Needless to say we got up and left. The look of shock on everyone's face that we would actually leave an Easter service was very funny. Easter is supposed to be a hope-filled celebration of rebirth, not a diatribe on EVIL.

The politicization of church, around us anyway, is the reason we haven't been to church in about 6 months.

One more thing, when we went to a service, at a different church, right before the 2004 election, they handed out a Christian voting pamphlet, letting Christians know which issues they should be concerned about. Issue number 2 was the assault weapons ban. My head was spinning I couldn't believe that was actually on the list, let alone as issue #2! I was so mad I threw it away, I wish I'd kept it, it is quite a revealing statement about the state of the church.

But sure, there is no politics in church.
